Title: Presque Isle
Post by: alm on September 07, 2011, 05:35:19 AM
I want to take a shot at the Friday Presque Isle Mile, but know nothing about the track.

Is this a 2-turn mile?  What other surface does their synthetic compare to most?

Al,

It\'s two turns, short run to the first turn. Despicable Tapeta surface plays more like Kee Poly than Golden Gate Tapeta, imo Fairly glib, raw sometimes on the fast side, been playing a little towards stalkers/closers lately.

good luck.

Great Mike.  I haven\'t really looked at this too closely, but McPeek looks nasty dangerous in there.  And why is Dutrow there with Maragh with an apparently slow horse?  Interesting race.

Al,

Did not see pp\'s.Tricky not out of the woods with the license thing in several states. Maintaining a low profile,if I had to guess, he\'s racing cold. Has lost couple owners with a few more on the fence.

In this case Mike it\'s Tony Dutrow...very different situation.

McPeek\'s horse seems competitive on the numbers, has won a couple on poly (Keeneland I think) and drew what is normally a good post in close to the turn miles.

Dutrow drew the outside post, but the horse has speed.  Its overall speed is not up to the top entries, but it could jump on this surface.  This is one of the instances in which a good trainer (relative term) enters an apparently overmatched horse for which he could find a softer spot.

The best part is the favorite is the LoPresti horse, Wise Dan...he will draw much of the money and is no cinch in this spot.  I tend to think, off his last big number, that he would have been entered sooner than this, if he did not regress from the effort.  Am counting on that regression and betting these other underbet entries.
