Title: 1st look at Saratoga before sheets
Post by: toppled on July 19, 2011, 06:40:05 PM
1st race-Looks tough but some interesting angles.  Last year Metivier won the meet\'s 1st race with the higher odds of an uncoupled entry with Leparoux up.  Rocky World has Leparoux up & is part of a Metivier uncoupled entry.  All of Dual Citizen\'s turf routes except his last race, where he was eased are good. The Noz won wire to wire here on Jim Dandy day last year.

2nd race-Chardsey, the likely favorite lagged in the back of the field in his debut, rallied and then galloped out well-will be tough to beat.  Poliziotto is a Chad Brown 1ster with Javier up.

3rd race-Winaholic looks like he\'s got a big class edge & if Jacobson can keep him together, he\'ll win this.  He has a lot of layoff lines, indicating he\'s got physical problems, but runs well fresh.

4th race-Without Love looks best to me here, but Godolphin has Abtasaamah coming over from Dubai off a March to July layoff.

5th race-Top choice is Asmussen\'s $550,000 My Miss Aurelia.  If anything comes up live on the board, I\'ll take notice.

6th race-Pervis has faced better and drops into what may be a very soft spot for Chad Brown.

7th race-A tough NY bred 2yo race with 10 of 11 FTS.  I\'m looking at the contenders coming from the 1 entry of Kibosh and Project Runaway, Pure Gossip, Wildcat\'s Smile & Proud and Charming.

8th race-I won\'t try this one without sheets.

9th race-Pletcher\'s Georgie\'s Angel will probably be the heavy favorite off an 83 Beyer, but I\'ll try to beat her with Tony Dutrow\'s True Feelings. who I suspect will have a better sheet # than her Beyer would indicate.

10th race-Too tough to call so far.  Top 5 contenders are Chosen Empire, Hamson Heights, Liberty Cap, Deflationary Fears & Alfarbi in no particular order.

Chad Brown\'s horses did not all seem to give maximum effort in the recent Belmont meet.  Perhaps holding back for a big Saratoga meet-he was super hot last year.  Local boy raised in Mechanicsville shooting for training title-should be live every race.

Doc,

Chad will have a big meet but no shot at training tittle. TAP has too many 2 year olds, he\'s loaded and the absence of the detention barn assures him another training tittle !

95 degrees plus and T-storms for the first 3 days of the meet could get ugly and decimate some nice full fields.

The condition book is over run with non winners of 2 lifetime and NW1 other than NY breds but I guess they have to write for what\'s on the grounds ?

Anyone see where King Charlie is predicting a rise in attendance due to the closing of NYC OTB ? Simply Brilliant !!! He must be having flash backs to the 60 \'s, before OTB, simulcasting and the invention of the PC. I\'m sure there are some TG old timers who used to hop on the buses daily at the Port Authority for the trip up north ?

Good luck,

Frank D.

Right, Frank.  Hope they don\'t have to cancel the Saturday card-gonna try the Foxwoods contest.  See you up there Aug 12-14?  Then I can give you all those losers in person rather than text!

Just looked at the forecast and it looks like there will be little to no rain for the entire opening weekend..First Saratoga opening weekend I can remember with no rain if that forecast holds.
Should be a good weekend.  Good luck to all.

Agreed its rare that there is no rain for such an extended period in a place that is a magnet for moisture.

Last time this happened early in the meet speed dominated on the grass.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

Forecast for 96 degrees Friday-I believe they did cancel one day last year for extreme heat.

I\'ve done pretty well at Del Mar, but with some couple very close misses.   Today\'s card was pretty mediocre, but still nicer than what you see at Hollywood on a Thursday.
