Title: Million Dollar Debacle
Post by: Wrongly on August 17, 2003, 03:20:49 PM
This game is super tough and the stewarts make the game even worse!  I thought that a race was considered over when a horse puts his nose over the wire.  Storming Home did come out and bump but, wasn\'t the race over!  Then the stewarts place Storming Home 4th?  Who can I issue my consumer complaint with?

I thought the replay clearly showed that Storming Home veered out sharply prior to reaching the finish line. I think the stewards had no choice but to take him down. (Note: I didn\'t have anything riding on any of the effected horses.)

I\'m not sure what the rule is for the race \"being over\". I have to believe you can\'t interfere with the horses trying for placings behind you in any event (I had Storming Home btw)

If they have the film frames numbered they can check at what frame the horse hits the wire on the pan shot and see the head on frame at the exact spot in the race. (The technology is there, have no idea if the mopes in charge of racing have it) On the head on shot it was difficult to see if the interferance took place after the wire.

I\'m just hoping Storming Home is okay physically. It sure looked like he popped something.

TVG did an excellent job showing both angles of the race...Storming Home was NOT at the finish line when he suddenly veered out an impeded the other horses. They replayed it over and over as did ESPN.

Too bad too...tough ending to a great race!

Viewing at home where - like SJU5 noted - there were plentiful replays of both head-on and pan shots, it is clear that the incident occurred before the finish line. Paolini and Kaieteur did not appear likely to pass Storming Home, but there is a very good chance that either or both were going to pass Sulamani in the final strides. Since there\'s a reasonable likelihood that the order of finish was affected, the winner had to come down.

The irritating thing is that the horse which benefited most from the inevitable DQ was the one least affected by the incident which led to it, and a horse I believe was possibly on his way to finishing fourth if Storming Home maintains a straight course.

As a nonbettor, I most definitely had no money riding on any outcome of this race.
