Title: Heat
Post by: albany on June 09, 2011, 04:51:17 AM
Does anyone have an opinion as to how the recent heat wave in NY may affect the horses preparing for the Belmont. In particular, will the weather adversely affect Master of Hounds who is shipping into the heat?

Horses on Lasix get shot up 4 to 4 1/2 hours before race..i.e around 2PM (hotest parts of day) for their 11th race. But Saturday may be a cooler and maybe rainy day. ..horses on lasix get no water, or very limited amounts to wet their dry mouth. Looking at racing form sheets etc will not tell us how young horses do under these conditions. It will be a wait and see down the stretch.

Just curious, why do horses on lasix not get much water? I would think you always want to allow a horse to drink water if it wants to, no?
