Title: Animal Kingdom to Win
Post by: djr2000 on June 07, 2011, 05:09:34 PM
Despite all that has been written about horses having too many races going for the triple crown, not to many people mention Point Given who finished 5th in the Derby, won the Preakness, The Belmont, The Haskell, and the Travers and horse of the year ten years ago in the space of 4 months.  Animal Kingdom hasn\'t had that many races, is being handled by a good trainer and is the best horse.  A bargain at 3-1.

The more relevant comparison is Victory Gallop (on 2-3 yo pattern development and race spacing/frequency).  There are also some relevant comparisons to be drawn with Real Quiet and Charismatic (when they topped in KD/paired in Belmont iirc).

As I\'ve already posted, I believe AK is elite, but 3-1 is a pipe dream.  2-1 is a small stretch.

Since Affirmed\'s Triple Crown, exactly ONE horse has won the Derby and the Belmont.  The list of horses that have won or run well in the Derby and Preakness and faltered in the Belmont is a looooooooong list.

You\'re not getting 3-1, but even at that price, you can have him.  HP

I stand corrected.  Thank you.  Still a short list and my point stands.  HP
