Title: Congrats to TG for Oaks picks
Post by: djr2000 on June 05, 2011, 03:27:25 PM
While not getting the winner, I boxed TG top three picks with favorite on top for key exactors and tris which paid almost $40 and $200 for $2 wagers respectively.  Nice picks JB

Agree, Great race.

My good friends had a dog in the fight ( or should I say kitten). If spooky holds on would have walked with a record score. She was so game though. Hope she stays sound for Saratoga and runs in the Alabama.
Title: Re: Congrats to TG for Oaks picks - Figure Pattern question for Jerry/ Alan

Question for Jerry/Alan on The Oaks winner Inglorious figure pattern.
Being a lightly raced three year old and reaching her 2 year old top in he last race could you consiider this an explosive pattern with a forward move imminent? That would make her the likeliest to win but at short odds.
And, isnt 3 weeks or more considered enough rest to recover from her last race considering ahe is lightly raced and she has developed only 2 points from her 2 year old top and her sire patern shows 4 is within her realm? Thanks

Showing no development at all from 2 to 3 can\'t be considered explosive. She could jump forward now-- as she could have in herlast two. She was competitive on figures and at a price would certainly have been usable, but she was no more likely to run well than several others, so not usable at a short price.

That other new site (sorry i wont mention the name), had Inglorious as a clear cut slam dunk in this one.

That\'s your one free promo. Nice pick on the short priced favorite.

Ah, yes, I thought I smelled eau de troll on that one.

\"cigar10\" signed up two days ago (on 6/4), and that\'s his first post. Nice.

How desperate are those guys, anyway?

Padraig ($63.90) in the 11th was EXTREMELY competitive on our sheets.  Only a few lengths back of a couple horses that figured to regress.

I\'m sure you\'ll be gone in no time, but let me the first to congratulate you on your poorly dressed, poorly executed, and methodologically questionable numbers that will fall off like so many burned tickets to the floor.

And I took a look at your numbers, Inglorious was NOT a standout as you claimed and Spooky Kitten was NOT most likely to improve.  Keep up your claims on your trash that I wouldn\'t wipe myself with, and soon you\'ll line the stalls of 5k claimers at Finger Lakes as your meant to.

Goodbye and good riddance.

Not to discourage you, but doing this right requires over a million in overhead annually, and 320 plus days a year from me. And it was tough enough back when I had to take on just one competitor, who had a monopoly in the ready-to-use-figure area-- at that time Beyer figures weren\'t available yet to smaller players. You\'re unlikely to make figures better than Andy\'s guys, and are going to have a very rough time making a living.

The interesting thing is there are plenty of areas where someone could publish very useful and marketable products without taking on established brands. Example-- how come nobody is doing the workout stuff Harrington does in California for other markets? And the stuff Jan\'s replacement at NYRA (Maggie?) does with grass feet and visual observation-- there\'s a market for that nationally. Hell, I would sell it here and take a piece, if serious professionals wanted to get involved.

Steve Davidowitz working on a NY clocker thing for their product.Problem is, like anything, all clockers are not equal. Two guys looking/clocking a work sometimes draw different conclusions.

Clueless Clowns at NYRA were asked to do something in the clocker area way back, a la Andy H,fugedaboutit, might create more churn(whats that?).Jans replacement, Maggie, born with horses, has a nice eye but wish she would expand on short walkers etc.

All clockers are not equal and all presentations are not equal. Harrington\'s is very useful.

I\'m not concerned Jerry.  Good products will sell themselves.  I greatly admire the work you\'ve done up to this point (You certaintly have left Len in the dust), but figure making has been fairly static for a good decade and the betting edge with pure ground loss figures has become lost.  It\'s time to get that edge back.

Yes. For instance, rather than providing trainers\' stats for the past 90 days why not provide them for the last 30 days or both?

Sample size, room on page.

Granted the sample size would be smaller but some of these trainers are pretty streaky. I\'d appreciate knowing the win % of Carlos Martin\'s last ten runners.

JB,

A discussion amongst many TG users I know prefer CURRENT trainers stats re last say 15-20 starters.Small sample understood but currently \"hot or cold\" an angle used by many.

That was exactly the idea behind last 90 days. If  trainer has a small string he might just have 5 or 10 starts in 30 days, and a photo one way or the other can really skew the percentages-- so we settled on 90 days.

Why not instead of doing last 90 days, do last 10, 15, or 20 starters? Don\'t worry about the head bob. I prefer to see whether they topped, paired or offed.
