I would ask anyone who\'s interested to check out the second race from Hollywood on Monday and tell me what Quinonez was doing on the favorite if not outright grabbing the horse? Look before the first quarter mile and again at about the 3/8\'s pole -- he is literally standing up with his feet on the dashboard as they say. If anyone has contact information for the Hollywood stewards, I\'d like to submit that race for inquiry.
Like to hear some opinions. If you knew he was grabbing that horse, the horse who won at about 13-1 was the lone speed just to his inside. Pretty interesting stuff.
Check out the redboard room for the sheets of that race, too. I\'m meeting more and more people who have completely abandoned California racing for so many reasons. I know the jocks are bad out there, but can they be this bad???
I agree with you that it was a terrible ride and read from Alonso. Not a lot of SoCal jocks read the form IMO and this is a spot where it costs them. On the other hand, the speed horse had his head down the whole way and you could just tell he wanted it, I love to see that from a horse when the head is down and they seem to want to give it all they can. It also was a MCL, so I\'m not sure how much we can really put into anything going on.
Dana: No interest in race, meaning I did not bet it. I don\'t see what you see. Quinonez did grab a hold of his horse, but no more so than jocks do in races every day, every racecourse. (Bejarano had a pretty good hold of his horse in the same race.) Then, at the top of the stretch there\'s no doubt he starts riding the horse hard, which is inconsistent with any attempt to stiff the horse. Also if you watch the head-on you\'ll note that the winner pushes him out several paths during the stretch run, which arguably affected whether he finishes second or not. Finally, it would not be a good move for him to stiff Mandella, who he has ridden for a fair amount lately, and for obvious reasons is in a position to positively influence his career.
Lone Speed,Getting lots of weight, 13 to 1??
A lot to like.
yeah probably why i was so pissed!
Pincay always used to have an unoffical theory when riding maidens, he\'d put them in front of the other horses as soon as possible, before hitting the strtech in a sprint race, he was a master at that - the horses would often gain confidence from being in front and the the chasers wouldn\'t catch up. Q rode the horse the opposite way, maybe he wouldn\'t have beat the other horse, but had he looked him in the eye down the backstretch the other guy might not have been so brave - probably not a stiff job but just a very poor ride! i was pissed b/c i missed the 13-1 shot who was a decent bet (but not on the sheets!?) and i had the other legs of the pick four cold and this race really screwed me up
It\'s pretty much irrelevant for me these days. Who wants to play synthetic tracks with 5 horse fields? Sure is a lot of that these days at Hollywood Park.
Hey Dana,
Just looked at the race also. I agree with the other posters didn\'t look like he did anything wrong there. When the leader drifted out in the stretch it seemed to impact him a little.
