Title: CHD does it right !
Post by: FrankD. on May 01, 2011, 03:33:08 AM
Kudos to the management at CHD for the innovative opening night theme to kick off Derby week. They seem to be the only outfit in the game with any vision and initiative to stir things up.

A crowd of 38,000 plus is simply awesome and it was nice to see though non profitable Machen come back after that ridiculously fast maiden win at the FG. In this mixed up year of 3 year olds he could be a major player before the year is out.

Frank:

6:33 AM? Just getting in from a long night?

Actually, Frank Stronach/Magna has proven to be pretty innovative, and he was
visionary enough (with the help of owners/trainers) to replace the mattress at
Santa Anita with a natural dirt surface. The $.50 pick 5 w/low takeout was well
received at GP. All in all Frankstro/Magna should be OK so long as the folks/funds
who invest in Magna International don\'t find out the money they\'ve invested in an
auto parts manufacturer is actually being diverted to fund card rooms and
racetracks.

Then there\'s NYRA, which used to be the market leader. Which is offering the $.50
P4 for the first time, years after it was offered in other venues. Then there\'s
Charles Hayward, who presented an absolutely unbettable racing product for the
first four months of this year, who harbored the convicted felon Paragallo and
still harbors the oft suspended Dutrow. Hayward maybe the second most clueless
\"Clown\" in the game.

Repole\'s two Derby colts have probably finished their in-company work. After
yesterday\'s Westchester at Belmont, Repole might be thinking of sticking to the
claiming game.

A skeptic might point out how well claimers react when exposed to stakes quality
performance enhancement, but I am not a skeptic.

Sorry folks-- I promise all posts in the next week will be all Oaks/Derby
undercard/Derby all the time.
