Senators Tom Udall (D-NM) and Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky) will introduce legislation that will ban race-day medication and permanently ban any person with three violations of the ban, according to a report issued yesterday by the Associated Press. The bi-partisan bill is expected to be introduced next week. A horse that tests positive for performance-enhancing drugs would be banned for at least two years. In addition to toughening penalties, the bill would ban Lasix, and would require that the winner of each race be tested for performance-enhancing drugs, according to the A.P. report.
