Title: Stay Thirsty
Post by: jbelfior on April 25, 2011, 05:26:33 AM
Not my Derby key by any means.

However, are we all being too critical of his last race where, for some reason, master horseman Todd put blinkers on?

Strong stamina pedigree on the dam side. Speed in the Hopeful at 2  and relaxed in the Gotham with nice turn of foot indicates he is capable of giving a burst whenever asked. Better chance of getting the 1 1/4 than his infamous stablemate.

Number in the Hopeful and slight improvement over his Gotham # all that may be needed  to get him on the board this year.

On the other side; his last did nothing for him condition-wise and he may be a better play in the Belmont.

Thoughts?

Good Luck,
Joe B.

Think he can run all day and has a lot of potential, but he is behind development wise. The blinker decision was atrocious.

Tough read.

Everytime Stay Thirsty gets into a big crowd, or has speed run up on him he craps himself and doesn\'t want to run anymore.  Happened in the Breeders Cup Juvy and predictably happened in the Fla Derby.  It\'s why Pletcher put the blinkers on IMO.

I think he\'s one of the few horses who could benefit from an outside post.   He just strikes me as the type of horse will run his best figures 4 wide on the outside the whole way around.   If Borel gets on him and he takes him to the rail, I don\'t think he\'ll be very comfortable down there.   Some Quality Road characteristics.
