totally random point but one that I think is interesting and worthy of a post only because we are in the calm before the storm of the next two weeks.
The top two (arguably) 3 year old fillies in the country, R Heat Lightning and Joyful Victory, both started their racing careers at Delaware Park.
What are the chances of that?
One of the reasons I love going to Saratoga every summer is because I love the thought of seeing the next big deal three year old break their maiden as a two year old at the Spa.
Maybe this year I have to head south to Delaware Park instead ?
that why I have never made any money on R Heat. Because i always felt if Pletcher thought she was really good he would have run her at the Saratoga Meet and then after she maybe surprised him in the maiden win wouldnt have gone to the $50K Colleen for her next start.
Just goes to show ya!
I remember buying the form for an otherwise normal day at Turf Paradise and seeing a well bred first time starter in a Trial Race for horses that had gone through an auction in AZ.
His name was Da Hoss.
No matter the track, you can see good ones from time to time anywhere.
R Heat Lightning has that look of a good horse that turned great at Gulfstream. History shows us Pletcher has had a tough time getting these types to repeat elsewhere. RHL looked a totally different horse at GP and I\'m not sure we\'ll see that kind of performance at CD.
