I\'m not Jimbo but I believe I have a similar rooting interest on this one.

On the one hand it was his 1st two turns, he was wide on both turns, and didn\'t come out of the gate very well and really looked like he was striding out eagerly in late stretch and past the wire.

On the other hand...89 Beyer.  Given that he was working head to head with Uncle Mo, I was really expecting an explosion.  I\'m disappointed.

Can\'t see how he beats his stablemate with that kind of number.  For that matter, as I mentioned already, I\'m having a harder and harder time seeing how anyone beats his stablemate.

Covelj,

Thanks for asking.

Glass Half Empty:

The field was terribly slow coming in and they ran like it. The Motion horse likely bounced, the Kelly Breen horse had trouble and the rail horse couldn\'t stay the distance despite two turns.  An 89 Beyer with one prep left for the Derby isn\'t going to cut it.

Glass Half Full:

Pletcher said he was short a few works coming in, he hit the gate at the start thereby getting off very badly and had a 3w/3w trip and was leveling off well the last 100 yards, albeit against slow competition.  Additionally, he has enough graded earnings to get into the Derby already.

The bottom line is that I told my wife NOT to spend the winnings yet on my futures bet.....

PHil23,

I never put much credence into Stay Thirsty \"working with\" Uncle Mo.  But if I did, I would draw the exact opposite conclusion you did.  I would say Stay Thirsty\'s performance on Saturday makes me question whether Uncle Mo has developed at all from his 2 year old season.  It wouldn\'t make me think Uncle Mo is more unbeatable at all.

Will Stay Thirsty even be entered in the Derby ?

I can\'t imagine that if Mo comes through his preps unbeaten, media hyped and as a 2/1 Derby favorite that Repole takes a chance on his other horse upsetting the apple cart ?

We\'ll see as its going to be an interesting next 7 weeks and I\'ll be shopping for a bomb or 2. I don\'t think Mo wants any part of a 1 1/4 and THAS looked more than just short to me in the FOY.

I look forward to our yearly lively debates on this board !

Good luck all,

Frank D.

I really can\'t see a reason to keep him in the barn especially for the reasons you cited.  If he\'s healthy i\'m sure he\'ll run.

Frank D,

If we are to believe \"owner-speak\", which is usually more accurate than \"trainer-speak\", then Stay Thirsty will be entered if healthy and if he shows a representative race next time out.

Repole has been more than effusive with his praise of Stay Thirsty.  He even took the buffoons at TVG to task this past Sunday for asking him about Uncle Mo the day after Stay Thirsty won the Gotham.  It seems Repole is quite fond of his \"second stringer\".

He will run in the Derby, just like he ran in the BC Juvy! And the Derby involves more luck with bad trips. Anybody would take their chances with two chances.

Except based on what I saw I\'m not sure I like this horses chances. The lack of a lead change in deep stretch just never looks healthy to me and those were absolute RATS he beat.

Silver,

Unless I am mistaken, I think he changed leads 3 times in the stretch.  He may have problems, but not changing leads isn\'t one of them.  Being slowish, not breaking out of the gate sharply and still being green are the problems..
