Title: Gulfstream Park Handicap
Post by: covelj70 on February 03, 2011, 04:48:53 AM
I am really looking forward to seeing the sheet numbers tonight on the filly that is in the GP Turf Handicap.

She\'s getting weight, a good post and a very favorable race shapes scenario and she has a tremendous pedigree.

No idea if she\'s fast enough on the sheets but I am anxious to see as I think she will be a price

Sheets are up, I think she\'s very live, along with Teaks North and the favorite.

3 horse box for me in this one, the filly, Teaks and Battle of Hastings.

Covel:

You think the jock will be able to tack 112 in the Stake?

Good luck on the inner tube Friday; have to make a late afternoon passenger
retrieval at JFK late afternoon, might have to stop in for a few at Park Ozone.

With my luck the races and the flight will be cancelled.

Richie,

Thanks so much for the message

Please look for me in the paddock, I will be the ugly one in the even uglier green coat.  Would love to put a face to a name and buy you a beer!

On the filly, I am assuming Snake Man switched to the kid vs. Bravo because the kid can make 112 but I don\'t know that for sure.

That\'s a tough race.

Could make a case for all three of those.

Get Stormy might run better but difficult to have off those last few.Now acclimated and the two 5f turf works point to a better effort.Tricky post cause they don\'t want to duel with the Romans horse.Still, almost impossible to have off his sheet.

I\'m trying to get interested in the Motion horse Smart Bid.I know it\'s Prado and that horse is forever stuck at the same level.He\'s had his issues though-ankle at 3 and knee at 4 which is why there are those gaps in 09 and 10.He was in South Florida for a few weeks prior to his last and now should be fully acclimated.Good post-figures for a pretty good trip so he could be in the mix.Any improvement would make him a dangerous horse at a decent price.Figures to go off longer than his 6-1 ML.

My question is, do you think he knew she was a filly when he put her in there rather than the other stake on the card? Same distance.

lol, he\'s quoted in the paper as saying he wanted the weight.  Maybe you got to him JB?

I seriously doubt he made a conscious decision to run at 112 against colts instead of 117 against fillies. Somebody screwed up, probably nominated to the wrong race.

Today\'s quiz. Who is this horse, and who trained her?

She embarked on an impressive
streak of four straight wins when she captured
the Prix de l\'Arc de Triomphe. Two
weeks later, she won the Rothmans International
by two lengths. She won the Turf Classic
13 days later and then the Washington,
D.C. International after another two-week
interval. She earned a $1 million bonus for
sweeping the three North American races
and became the first female Horse of the Year
since 1965 when Moccasin shared the title.

It\'s All Along, but this ain\'t that. He\'s not even running her in a GI.

It is a Grade 1 and the purse is 2x the filly race and, there\'s no world beater in here.  Once Prince Will I Am decided to skip this race to run in the 1 3/8ths race on the 19th, this one became a wide open affair.

Jerry,

1) the trainer is famous for running girls vs boys, 2) Midnight ran against the boys in 60% of her Euro starts, and 3) the boys race is a 300k grade 1, while the f&m race is a 150k grade 3.

And you think it\'s all one giant mistake?

Jim,

When did Citrus Kid decide to skip the race? I thought I saw him in the nomination pp\'s?

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - All along, trainer Patrick Biancone was planning on running a girl against the boys in a Grade 1 race this Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

He just expected it to come on the main track.

While multiple Chilean Group 1 winner Belle Watling will not be tackling the boys in Saturday's Donn (G1), Grade 3 winner Justaroundmidnight will do just that in the Gulfstream Park Turf (G1).
"It's a Grade 1 and it's $300,000," Biancone said when asked about his decision to bypass Saturday's Suwannee River (G3) in favor of this seemingly more-difficult spot.  "I think she has a shot to win."

Biancone added that there was no physical issue that kept Belle Watling from running in the Donn.

"She's fine," he said.  "She was supposed to run in the Donn, but I want to wait a little bit.  She's not really ready to go that distance with big weight.  She's just a bit short."

On the other hand, Biancone says Justaroundmidnight remains on the top of her game after rallying to win the Marshua's River (G3) last out at odds of 26-1.

"She's clearly a very talented filly," he said.  "She worked very well on the turf a couple weeks ago [four furlongs in :47 3/5 handily].  She's getting in light [112 pounds], so we're going to take our shot."

The Gulfstream Park Turf is no stranger to fillies or mares.  In 2007, multiple Grade 1-winning mare Honey Ryder used the Turf as a prep race for the $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic at Nad Al Sheba.  She finished a game second behind Jambalaya before finishing 11th in Dubai.

"Running a filly against the boys doesn't bother me at all," Biancone said.  "They do it all the time in Europe."

Winless in five starts in her native Ireland, Justaroundmidnight was sent to Biancone and made her U.S. debut at Monmouth Park on June 13, 2010.  After settling well off the pace, she uncorked a ferocious rally to break her maiden going away at the end.

Two weeks later, with just that maiden win under her belt, Biancone entered Justaroundmidnight in Monmouth's Grade 3 Boiling Springs.

Off since that race on June 26, Justaroundmidnight returned to action in last month's Marshua's River and pulled a major upset with yet another late charge.

While she appears to be entering Saturday's race in career form, Justaroundmidnight will be losing regular rider Joe Bravo.

Bravo, who piloted both Justaroundmidnight and Little Mike to stakes scores on Jan. 9 has elected to ride the latter Saturday as both are entered in the Gulfstream Park Turf.

Florent Geroux has picked up the mount on Justaroundmidnight.

It was a real close call for us to run in this one or the 1 3/8ths in 2 weeks.

We decided on the 1 3/8ths for 4 reasons:

1) These horses are a touch faster than him figures wise weight adjusted and we think he will fit better in 2 weeks

2) This was back a touch fast off a new lifetime top in the last one

3) We think he\'s better going 1 3/8ths than 1 1/8th as he can clip off 12 second furlongs for as long as he needs to but he doesn\'t have a 11 flat close like some of these will

4) We weren\'t going to be able to get Castellano for this one but we have him for the 19th.

Only problem for the 19th is that Prince Will I Am is running in that one.  We will need to get lucky to beat him

Good luck to all
