Title: The Belmont
Post by: Chuckles_the_Clown2 on June 01, 2003, 10:42:58 AM
I remember last year. I had War Emblem keyed on top. I really thought he was the real deal. His Preakness sold me cause he rated somewhat and ran hard for a long time. I knew they were getting to him at the end, but I was sure he\'d take the race to them at the Belmont from the opening bell and then he broke horribly. He had the lead after a mile but you could tell he was all used up. He won the Haskell and then was humilated by California Speed in the Pacific Classic. I don\'t remember if he ran in the B.C. Classic, but by that time I was off him though. Megadeath and Sarava were good horses last year. Are there two like that this year? Is this a race where an odds horse can get into the picture? I keep seeing Empire Maker gasping in the stretch of the Derby and Funny Ride drawing off from the Preakness Field. His sheet is strong, but I don\'t think Funny is a Secretariat or a Seattle Slew and horses improve so dramatically this time of year. But in the back of my mind I hear the ghost voices of bettors saying \"I like Sham and Alydar, they were right there and its their turn man...i bet the house...its their turn\"

It\'s not a question of who, rather how far?
