Title: Winchester
Post by: Silver Charm on October 04, 2010, 05:23:08 PM
Why is nobody talking about this horse. Maybe the most impressive winner of the weekend. (Ok maybe the Pletcher filly who rated and rallied.) 5YO who went a little wrong after the impressive 3YO win in the Secretariat has found a career form under a patient Turf Trainer in Clement. Could be a good Euro buster one the big day!

Was an excellent 7-2 shot this past weekend. He was the fastest horse in the race coming in with positive soft turf form. At the weights, a very easy exacta but he does love Belmont so the Breeders Cup may be more difficult

Colin:

While I agree with your assessment on Winchester, I don\'t agree re: the easy exacta part.

Grassy better suited to the 1 1/2 than POP and would have been second if not for an uncharacteristically tentative ride from Go-Go Gomez.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

Agree Joe.

2nd choice over 1st choice is an easy exacta. Ok.

Bet enough exacta combinations like this, and you will \"easily\" go broke.

I keyed Grassy with Never On Sunday (who never showed up on Saturday) and Winchester.

I\'m not as young as I used to be when I could handle these. This after Ave found renewed life to break up my Changing Skies-Red Desire number.

Not one of my better days.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

Joe B,

I had that same number massacred !!! ( 2,3 )
I still can\'t believe the 5 got between the 2 of them ?
Not Johnny V\'s best moment along with costing me a very nice pick 4.  The pick with the 5 who was 10/1 paid $ 2,500.00 the 3 ( Changing Skies ) was 8/1 not a ton of difference !!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrr as I\'ve watched the reply at least 10 times.

Switch riders and we nail it

As good as Johnny V is, he can\'t shine Castellano\'s boots on the grass.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

I had Changing Skies as well and good point Joe on Grassy who you are right should have been second and it was a bad ride but he had 4\'s going in and although I think it was a good sheet read by you as the pattern was very good adjusted for weight I had Paddy at a 2 which beat all others except Telling on recent form. One other point, I had a friend who always played the two favorites in an exacta box and I have never seen anyone lose more often so I will also agree that the second choice over the favorite exacta is not a great play. More importantly, I love Super Robusto at Keeneland tomorrow. Good luck to all E

I know the Euros are the one to beat and this horse may be better at Belomont than say CD.

But he has that profile that any American who is going to be a tough runner may need to have. The better American 3YO never see the Turf. The Americans who do if given time can develop into a good horse. And this horse did not start in America but seems to have gotten good with age and staying sounder longer....
