We have $5000 Claimers running for $30,000 Purse.
This makes me wonder if these are really animals worth $5K when they can take down a purse at 4 times their value.
The temptation to ram a $10k Claimer has to be irresistible. If you lose him then take him back next out. Even if runs back for $10K elsewhere.
Shoukd me an interesting meet to watch at the very least....
I think we\'re going to see ALOT of claiming going on here. And betting opportunities all over the country when these claimers ship out after the meet.
If its true that NYRA goes dark on June 9, Mth should not need to run any races
where the animals are in for a claiming price of less than 30K.
Kulina and others are billing this as a premier meet. Let the cheapies run at
Delaware and Keystone. Whats so premier about 5K claimers?
If NYRA goes dark after the Belmont Stakes (and this worm will turn many times
between now and then), wonder if Mth will add an additional day per week.
Let NYRA crumble. Privatize NY Racing. I could live without NY Racing for 18
months or so if NY Racing re-emerged as a viable commodity. It would present an
opportunity to retool OTB, dump the NY Greeders and get out from under the
Hayward/Camporegime.
Footnote, evidence of NYRA\'s absolute lack of accountability: Ernie Paragallo was
sentenced this week.
About 1 hour to post for the late P4 at Polywood-- great way to start the weekend.
Ritchie that extra day a week they could call it New York Bred Day.Run one day a week a Full Card of NY Breds in Jersey.
I mean if it was good enough for the Nets, Jets and Giants to play there all these yrs then who would have a problem with this. Think of it this way the NY Breeders Program can help pay down the NJ Corzine Debt.
But then if they did this could they still call it a Premier Meet.
LOL, Silver Charm.
Good insight, Sekrah and Richiebee, looking at this situation from different perspectives, with different kinds of implications.
Regarding NYRA, I\'ve always viewed its management style the way I view a country club. No disrespect to the individuals involved, but, often times, folks in those decision-making positions, while successful in many walks of life, don\'t always have the wherewithal to operate other kinds of businesses. Since I\'m more than an arm\'s length removed from this, I may certainly be wrong about their experience (Hayward came from DRF, and publishing houses before that), but, one other facet is analogous to the country club situation: decisions are made with (mostly) other people\'s money. I think this supports Richiebee\'s contention about privatization, though Magna has clearly demonstrated that\'s no panacea. Regardless, I believe it\'s time for a change.
You got it. I know two trainers who are looking at it exactly this way. Claim a guy for 12500 or 10, ship and run him for a 25-32k purse. If he hits 1st, 2nd or 3rd and you lose him your still sitting pretty good.
I love what Monmouth is doing. Other tracks should take heed. Less days, bigger purses, bigger fields, leads to bigger pools. Now if they added one day a week with lower takeout to see how it affects pool sizes we\'d have a pretty good test market going.
Sad to say it, but NYRA deserves whatever happens. There\'s some good people there, but also a lot of ineptitude.
Be curious to see how big the shake was for the Dutrow/Gomez $5K Claimer that POLED in the 2nd. This was a total ram job and yet whoever got him can run back $7,500 and be in great shape or $10K and still be in good shape with him.
Speaking of monmouth economics the ROTW is now and I think we can make some money
There is one other piece to this equation that has been left out.
Called the Garrett Gomez Monmouth Economics.
Is this guy required to go off favored in EVERY race. That spill at the break was not his fault but check out some of the Show prices. This was nuts for a horse coming out of the 11 hole.
I confess I took the 10 but only to win thinking he could break and wire. Which he almost did.
