If you are talking about the DQ in Belmont\'s 7th today: you can make that move on the subway, but not on the racetrack.

The rider on #11 Muy Guapo plowed through horses where no hole existed, then carried the #7 Timber Cat wide and also caused him to lose ground. It was a dangerous and foolish move by the jock.

I\'ve seen much worse left alone, but was this a \"horrible\" call? Isn\'t any DQ that costs us money \"one of the most horrible\" DQ\'s we\'ve ever seen?

Rick:

I was at Belmont today. It was an awful call. There was almost a riot after the 11 came down. A guy who had the 7 and was put up told his wife they were leaving \"before the racing gods take it back.\"

Not sure what you were looking at. Cordero made his living doing that for 30+ years.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

Watch a replay of the 3rd race, Garcia got away with the same move on the winner at the 1:18 mark on the video with no inquiry.

Probably the same as you, more or less. I\'ve probably looked at the replay a little more than you. For what it\'s worth, the chartman saw it the way I did (bold emphasis mine):

\"TIMBER CAT was reserved early, rallied outside on the turn, was carried five wide by MUY GUAPO at the quarter pole and finished well in the middle of the track but could not get up.\"

Being carried wide right as he was trying to straighten up coming out of the turn also caused Timber Cat a critical loss of momentum that he darn near made up with a nice rally down the length of the stretch. The loss of momentum was more than enough to cause Timber Cat to lose by a nose.

I disagree that this was a horrible call, however unpopular it may have been on-track; in fact, upon additional review of the replay, it\'s really a no-brainer.

Does that somehow validate the move, and \"rodeo riding\" in general?

If you are or were some big fan of Cordero, I suppose that all of this is falling on deaf ears. Oh well. I think the replay tells the tale quite well, and the stews got it right.

Respectfully disagree. Not the \"same move\" at all.

Garcia\'s horse gave Prado\'s a quick bump that didn\'t at all affect the outcome or the placings. Quite different from the sustained push to the outside that Santiago\'s horse put on Cohen\'s in the 7th.

Not all contact is a foul -- there has to be a specific advantage gained, or a disadvantage conferred. Otherwise there would be 40 DQ\'s per day.

I was taken down. The incident was deemed sufficient to affect the order of finish by the stewards.Had the winner won by a larger margin, he would have stayed and the incident would have been deemed \"insufficient\".

NY stewards rule that way most of the time. They make bad calls, this really was not one given the head bobbing finish.

Just saw your post.

I had the 11 to win and place and I had the 11-7 exacta boxed.

I was not happy with the outcome, but I can tell you from doing this many years, you are picking well to hit disqualified horses, so look at it from the positive side.

It evens out.
