Title: Are they really getting faster?
Post by: Frank on May 01, 2003, 04:53:24 PM
Are all you TG users going to let me get away with my contention that the breed is not getting faster?

Jerry, I understand that you are very busy at this time. But when you have the time, don\'t let the fact that I purchase a lot of product stop you from explaining to me why I might be wrong. I won\'t take it personally.

I believe that the only thing that has gotten faster over the last 20 years are the speed figures and not the horses. I don\'t believe for a second that Left Bank and Running Stag are lengths faster than the greats of a decade or two ago, even if it were for just a few races.

I\'ve read the article. Very interesting. Even scary. But are you implying that cheating is a recent phenomenon? And that you believe that that\'s why horses are running faster now than ever? Don\'t leave me guessing. Tell me what you believe.

Horses ARE getting faster. The problem is that they have NO durability any more.

Remember \"Rodeo\" trained by Stanley Hough? Ran a 2 in his maiden race as a 2yo and eventually broke down?

A fast horse can run a couple of good races. A good horse can run for 3 years or more.

The days of the good race horse are history. You will never see another Alysheba, Silver Charm or Skip Away.

You will now see many fast horses and if you are smart, you will either quit betting or find a way to cash quickly and get out. Good luck.

The best tool for making that judgement is Thorograph.
Title: Tiznow

Tiznow ran for two years. Well only one handicap year.

Lets see Lido Palace, Cigar, Skippy, Albert the Great, Lemon Drop Kid, Real Quiet, Silver Charm, Behrens. Cat Thief ran on through four or maybe even five, damn he musta been made of iron...lol I know theres others I just can\'t remember right now. I guess if you run hard at 3 you\'re lucky to get a good handicap year at four. Theres so much value though to retire if you\'ve been a top runner.

I can\'t remember, how many years did Dr. Fager, Damascus, Buckpasser, In Reality run? I\'m not sure theres many top dirt horses that race on to 5 and more now or then. Kelso, Forego and Best Pal were geldings correct?
