Wagering on a race where 1. You dont know the competition 2. Track Condition 3. If the horse you fancy will even run 4. Racing luck almost always trumps ability ... seems like a sure way to seperate yourself from your $$$$ ... Whats the takeout on the wager anyway? The antepost market keeps the exchanges live and well in the UK ... Can someone shed some light on this? Money management at its worst !

it\'s a pari-mutuel pool. it\'s as good a bet as any. a different set of variables indeed - more difficult to handicap - but everybody is dealing with the same risk. to win, you simply have to outperform the other players (& takeout, as with normal win bets). these pools are not the same as the Vegas books or UK antepost lines, where I would imagine you are, over the long run, supporting the house by taking odds well below true value. 80-1 always looks great, even if the actual risk might be closer to 120-1.

the main problem people have with this bet is pool size. 2 or 3k, and you will move the market against yourself.
