$340 Daily Double races 7/8 \"right on top\" as the tip sheet barkers used to scream
outside the track...
$370+ Exacta in the La Canada stakes (another stakes win for top stud Smart
Strike. Unbridled Who?).
The La Canada looked like a great betting race going in just based on field size.
Then they made 2 favorites (Stardom Bound and Unrivaled Belle) who I really did
not like. Ca- Ching, correctomundo?
Wrong. I used the winner in the La Canada with three logical runners in the 7th
race in doubles; none of these 3 was ever a factor.
In the stake, I boxed the winner, the third place finisher and the Baffert runner,
and got split in the exacta. Maybe its time to ride the MoPed er,I mean make show
wagers.
A bleak day in Living Room Downs. The only consolations were that Stardom Bound
threw in another clunker (hope they bet her again next time) and that apparently
Horse Racing is not the only sport with surface issues (any one else watch Daytona
yesterday?).
I usually do not pull against horses, but sometimes their connections make it
necessary. Before Stardom Bound\'s race, Iavarone was quoted as saying that he
changed riders (Smith to Leparoux) and bought out his embattled partner in SB,
David Lanzman (I seem to recall that part of the consideration for the sale of I
Want Revenge was that Lanzman received a piece of SB). Iavarone said that these
changes might result in a change of \"karma\" for the underachieving filly. Back to
the drawing board.
Speaking of IEAH, they purchase Diamondrella, one of the better female turf
milers on the East Coast, take her away from Angel Penna (a top notch turf
trainer) and ship her West. Would love to know if Penna was given a chance to
retain this mare, and if he passed on the opportunity to train for one of Racing\'s
major snake oil salesmen.
Yes I watched almost all 6+ hours of Daytona. No I am not an auto racing fan per
se, but Fox\'s coverage of NASCAR is thorough, informative and entertaining and
it is the kind of coverage Horse Racing deserves for its major events, but of
course the main stream sponsorship is not there for Horse Racing.
Speaking of TV, my opinion is that, after having watched HRTV for the last two
months (although both need tweaking) HRTV is an Ivy League institution and TVG is
a community college.
Hey Richie,
Phenomenal post as always.
Angel was given no choice in the matter.
I like HRTV alot better as well. I think there\'s a reason G. Stevens traded TVG for HRTV a few years back.
Good stuff.
I agree wholeheartedly with the HRTV comment Richie. Some of their corny attempts at \"humor\" by certain personalities should be probably be dropped but I really enjoy listening to Pincay, Siegel, and Mandella. On TVG I like Nick Hines because he often refers to Thorograph numbers when giving his opinion on races.
After HRTV interviewed LePeroux and Ivarone before the race, Stardom Bound was a complete toss for me when they said they would try to engage her earlier. After she made that pre mature move on the backstretch she was done.
Great call by the analyst calling out the late Pick 3 yesterday.
