Fairgrounds is reducing purses... WHO CARES?! especially for 3 year olds!

FG hasnt produced a Kentucky Derby winner since Funny Cide won with a slower race than Empire Maker and only ran 3rd in the Louie Derby. Prior to that flop we had Grindstone win back in 1996 both the Derby and the Louie Derby prep at FG. Take one more step back we have only one more horse winning the derby winning at FGs Louie Derby and its Black Gold in 1924! I cant even tell you if those two horses ran slower then the competition and saved ground but the point is that for 3 year old top quality horses prepping for the Derby, it seems to not even matter if FG lowers purses cause when it comes to the big Derby race, they are all LOSERS and the winners will not show up!

While you take a very narrow and short sided view, this is another dilemma for the racing industry as a whole. It means there is fewer betting and playing thea races, which does effect owners which will eventually effect you someplace down the line.
This is a very bad trend which can lead to the end of T-bred Racing as you know it today.
It\'s not an i don\'t care thing, You better care.
NC Tony
NoCarolinaTony..
Im taking a reality from 1924 to now.. there have only been THREE horses to come out of FG from Pre-Derby races to make any impact with the Derby. The money being lowered to FG is just a favor to FG itself. Where is my short sided view coming from?
Even if you take the Polytrack angle or anything you can throw at me it took about 70 years to produce another winner at the Kentucky Derby from the Louie Derby. Sunland Park is offering $800,000 for the Sunland Derby AND gives an extra 200k to a horse winning that race who previously won a graded 1 race...

something is just wrong here. I think the FG Louie Derby has ALWAYS been used as a race (even at 750k) as a worst case scenario and MOST owners and trainers have tradionally avoided it to go elsewhere for better competition and prep into the kentucky derby

As the self annointed serial poster emeritus, I note with alarm that half or more
than half of the last ten posts belong to you. I guess being a professional
horseplayer affords you a lot of leisure time. May I also note that responding to
your own post should only be done when making a correction, withdrawal or apology.
Responding to one\'s own post when said post chose a short priced winner (I agreed
with your analysis there as to who the most likely winner was, by the way) is a
bit overbearing.
While I am in a critical mode, let me point out that if I see the words \"show
wager\" in any post, I am inclined to move along. I can honestly say that in the
last 35 years or so, my only show wagers have been in races with huge fields, and
that these wagers have been recreational. My personal opinion, but I do not think
that much conversation will arise over the nuances of wagering in the show spot.
Just a non scientific observation.
I kind of look at show wagering as being akin to riding a Moped and undertaking
another activity which I will not mention in an attempt to remain politically
correct.
Having presented a rather long and rambling preface, as I am wont to do, let me
respond to your comment regarding purses at Fair Grounds. First of all I learned
long ago that there is usually no upside in disagreeing with my Tar- heeled Jesuit
friend, Don Antonio. Secondly, you are certainly aware that Fair Grounds is owned
by Churchill Downs. Churchill Downs also owns Calder, Arlington and oh yeah
Churchill Downs, and that purses are likely to be chopped at all of these
facilities at one point or another.
As NCT stated so succinctly: Lower purses = shorter fields = fewer wagering
opportunities. If I was a \"professional horseplayer\" rather than a contented
weekend warrior, this would be of great concern to me, and has absolutely nothing
to do with how colts who prepped at FG have historically fared in the Derby.
Further affiant saith naught.
Couldn\'t have said it better myself Dr. Richiebee (PHD)
demonstro mihi viaticus

\"Robbie Coultrane\" is the name of the 3-year-old in training?
