Title: 4 things I learned this weekend
Post by: covelj70 on January 24, 2010, 07:59:57 PM
1) Danny Guidry who is a poster on this board and who was nice enough to introduce himself to my wife and I at the Fair Grounds yesterday is a fabulous person.  Gracious, kind and smart.  It\'s very cool to meet people who post on the board live, Danny thanks so much for everything yesterday.

2) My horse, Citrus Kid, is bogus and he stinks.  Tremendous disappointment, no more needs to be said on this topic.

3) New Orleans may well be the coolest city in the entire country with great people and an awesome spirit.  Note that although I am definitively too old to be chugging Hurricanes on Bourbon Street.....that didn\'t stop me in any way shape or form....

4) Winslow Homer seems destined to the next offspring of Unbridled Song who teases us with his/her brillance early in a 3 year old campaign only to see a far too early end to a racing career due to the unsound genetic traits passed on by his sire.  Dunkirk, Old Fashioned, Eight Belles (among others) teased us in the last few years.  Hopefully, Winslow breaks this trend but it would be tough to bet on that (say in the Derby futures).

Baloney. They taste that good for a reason, aftermath notwithstanding. Hurricanes are my favorite for \"getting my stupid on\". Why should the youngsters have all the fun?

Jim it was a pleasure meeting you and your wife.  I wouldn\'t give up on citrus kid just yet he may need to mature a bit.  If  my memory serves me he ran an 8 as a two year old so we know he is capable.

Oh, on the nice comments I\'ll accept gracious and kind but smart would be a bit of a stretch.  I didn\'t cash one ticket on saturday!!!

Cov,

If you thought WH ran well, what did you think of the nickle bred Jackson Bend who spotted WH 4 lbs and a wide trip(maybe not have been Rose\'s fault).Once again Ramon Dominguez strutted his stuff and may have been the difference in the outcome.Beyer kinda unimpressed with a fig of 91(about a TG 2-ish with weight and ground, if JB agrees) but it is only January.

The Le Compte was an ordinary bunch going in.RTG, a one run closer, ran ok and is moving forward (90 Beyer). Runner up, Maximus Ruler, fought bravely and was beaten by dynamics even thought he was on the fence all the way.

Mike,

I thought Maximus Ruler may have been the most impressive horse I saw anywhere on Saturday.  He is an absolute monster of a horse and for him to run fractions like that and still have something left at the end, he\'s the real deal.  Very impressive, especially for a 3rd lifetime start.

I would love to see him with an outside post and a nice stalking trip next time, very nice.

Jackson Bend is clearly very very good and Zito doesn\'t tend to have them tuned up first time out as 3 year olds so he will be one of the ones to think about on Derby Day I believe.

Cov,

Agree re /Zito/Jackson Bend but always fearful that those nickel bred types will step on their breeding along the way.Good Luck
