Title: Quality Road Play against angle?
Post by: Lost Cause on January 03, 2010, 12:00:43 PM
I know a lot of you said that you were going to play against Quality Road whenever he runs again due to the starting gate incident at BC.  Your chance is here today in Gufstream\'s 8th..He is running against a salty crew of older horses and giving 6 pounds of weight..Go cash if you can..

Sounds like imo Quality Road gets the last word on starting gate issues today at Gulfstream .
No surprise as $ 2.80 would suggest  . ..

Only saw the replay any issues trying to get him into the gate?

None at all that I\'m aware of today but with QR\'s temperament , I wouldn\'t rule out further antics at some point .

I just watched the replay:

His fractions were 25.15,23.24,23.78,24.3, was loafing on the lead and did it all in hand. What\'s next?

Was wondering if that first fraction is real....

Anyway, he looks to be on his way for another Dirt Campaign....

Hi Tony,

First fraction at Gulfstream in the one mile race is always very slow due to the lack of any run up to the timing beam.Good Luck!

Right, I remember this from last year.  How does TG handle this as it affects the value of the opening quarter stats and the final fig? I\'m sure it\'s been posted or answered before, but are they timing each race from when the gate opens?

Joekay,

Gulfstream has been notorious for years for their questionable posted splits, especially in grass races. As to dirt racing, I believe only the mile distance has the abbreviated/no run up.Sprint splits seemed very normal from what I saw yesterday.

TG will have the best/current info on what is happening re run ups at GP.

Yes we clock from the gate, but if there\'s a significantly different runup at any track at any distance, you just adjust for the faster/slower times when you do the figures.

As I said (guessed) in here just after BC day, I think he will have a very big year as a 4 year-0ld. I did single him in the p-4 but missed or dissed the one demonstration of gate-to-wire speed in the winner of the first leg (30-1).

Title: Re: Quality Road Play against angle?-Wind Effect??

How did wind play in the opening quarter and half fractions.

As a point of reference for handicappers the mile shute faces norht and obviously the run down the stretch is south. When the temperatures are cooler than normal as they are now then there is a sure headwind down the back stretch and during the winter spring season it can be pretty severe.

A 48 and change half for a quality Grade One animal is a walk. Could there have been a half second or even a seconds worth of wind?
