Title: Gulfstream Betting Patterns
Post by: drbillym on January 03, 2010, 10:09:27 AM
Last year I posted how I noticed that a higher than usual percentage of horses winning at Gulfstream had opened at very low odds and then drifted up, paying a decent price.  I use twinspires, and the very first odds flash has only a couple thousand dollars in the win pool.  I talked with Rich Nilsen and we suppose that this first flash is money bet on track, before the off track money is included.  Maybe this is valuable since the on track money comes from local owners, trainers.  McPeek and Ward horses were particularly noted.
I will make notes today and see what happens. Today, Zito\'s horse took the early action in the opener, which goes in 10 minutes.
One other observation last year was a lot of well bred turf horses are being given a first race or two on dirt, show some awful lines, then pop on turf at a good price.
Good Luck betting GP-if you can find a place to wager.

Opening day handle was down 37% from last year, which hopefully is from the Mid-Atlantic bettors (like myself) not being able to wager and might push TrackNet towards a settlement (though I won\'t hold my breath).
