\"I don\'t want to say she\'s great yet,\" said Marty Wolfson, who trains Woodward contender It\'s a Bird. \"I grew up around Affirmed and Alydar, horses like that. Those are great horses. I cannot tag her great yet. She\'s a top filly. I\'ve seen a lot of top fillies, too. My stepmother had Affectionately and Priceless Gem and horses like that. They were top fillies, but they weren\'t great horses. I think she\'s a top filly.\"
Someone please explain how this bozo successfully trains horses? What\'s that garbage about who HE grew up around.Nothing worse than someone big-timing,ESPECIALLY one who doesn\'t have half a right to.Way too many I\'s and ME\'s
spewing forth from that horses ass.
pissed,

Its a clown statement. If you want to say that i love my horse and think he has a shot, that\'s one thing. But to try and criticize Rachel to prove your point is really silly, makes you look like you don\'t know much about the game. Alydar was such a \'great\' horse he finished 2nd NINE times, many times not switching leads. Great horses WIN, not hang in the stretch and refuse to go by.
I would like to hear Jerry Brown\'s take on Wolfson and his ability to \'turn around\' a horse...the guy is borderline drug problematic at Calder where he rules...in fact didn\'t his Bird-horse lose a purse for a positive test???
It\'s true that his family owned all those great horses, but his father went down on some big SEC fiasco, no?
Regardless of all that, to mention RA in the same breath as Priceless Gem and Affectionately is ludicrous...no one in their right mind would have ever entered those fillies against colts in classic races with the expectation of winning.
I thought the older horses would get to Rachel yesterday, but they didn\'t beat her...she\'s one for all time.
Al,
Rachel received a 108 Beyer and probably a neg -2ish on TG.Seems strange that her best two races,Preakness and Woodward will be her slowest performance figs.Yesterday was a gut wrencher, pressed for 6f and then gamely holding off the closers.Tough to say if the Preakness or yesterday was her best, but yesterday her toughest.
Doubt we\'ll see her unless the Zenyatta camp wants to show up. NYRA not confident of a race at Belmont in the fall.
Mike
Alm,
I know you asked for TGJB, but not sure he can comment in writing on who is a \"move up\" trainer, but Wolfson is not \"borderline\" by any means. Anybody that believes there is a list of \"move up trainers/cheaters\" will have Wolfson\'s name on it.... (well, at least 95% of the lists will include him. )

Mike,
I don\'t think yesterday was her best. It was gutsy, but to me her Haskell was unbelievable. There she pressed a hot pace 4w/3w and pulled away from Summer Bird like he was in quicksand. Summer Bird is the Belmont/Travers winner, winning the latter right after the Haskell in a tour de farce. For my money, Summer Bird is better than anybody she faced yesterday and she got 8 pounds yesterday.
Borel was getting into her pretty hard. If you watch him instead of the horse as they turn for home, it is interesting. As they straighten out, he was handriding her, and he asked her with a slight hand movement, almost expecting her to draw off. After a few strides, where she doesn\'t draw off, he hits her to get her attention. He is then all over her switching the whip three times from the left to the right, trying to get as much from her as he can. She hasn\'t been asked like that this year.
Jim
I called the Woodward scenario pretty well in my pre-race post on it...it\'s not whether or not D\'Tara is a good horse, or for that matter whether or not the other speed in the race was of a high quality. They were older speedy distance horses and they tend to press a lot harder than younger horses.
She figured to have a tough pace and to get late in the race. Macho Again figured to get a slowing Rachel to run at. He almost got the job done the way he always seems to do 2nd race off a freshener.
As for Rachel...I think that any filly who is 20 lengths better than her sex may get another good enough effort next time out...if they run her. As for running in the Breeders Cup, they should skip it...people should not run on that surface unless they have no choice.
