Title: Bounce?
Post by: martoon on August 16, 2009, 07:43:20 AM
I\'ve been using Thorogragh for a while now and am still trying to figure the most effective way to use them.  I think the figures are excellent.  But I have to say that this weeks ROTW proved to me again that counting on very good horses to bounce is a dangerous way to go.  I\'m starting to fall into that camp that thinks the bounce is nonsense.  As an owner of a couple horses I know there are a lot of reasons for a horse not to run a good one.  Rationalizing them to be bounces in hindsight is starting to cost me.  And predicting great performances to bounce the next time is costing me even more.   I\'d be doing a lot better with my handicapping results this year with Thorograph if I disregarded the bounce.  With all the races to choose from I\'m like the ROTW writers one of these weeks to pick a winner instead of picking 4 or 5 to \"use\" while often missing the clear winners.  ROTW have been ice cold this Summer.  Again, I am a fan of TG and the speed figures are the best but I think the constant focus on the bounce and trying to predict them leads to overananalysis and failure in a lot of otherwise simple races to figure.  Just my opinion.  Any thoughts?

Disagree - I\'m no expert but have been a sheet player for 20+ years.  The bounce is legit.  It may not have happened in the ROTW yesterday but I think Jerry explained his position ROTW thread.  Overall I think the ROTW have been excellent this Spring/Summer though cold for a few weeks.
