Title: Santa Rosa
Post by: Rick B. on July 31, 2009, 06:03:33 PM
Just a heads up: logical \"use\" horses on TG have been coming in at generous mutuels at Santa Rosa the past 2 days, and if you get the top two chalks out -- wow. Especially turf -- it\'s as if the horses are reading the sheets and running right to their established numbers.

Consider taking a look, if you are tired of polyquirk or scratch-reduced fields. Although I\'d expect Saratoga to be a lot better tomorrow, the money they are paying at Santa Rosa is just as green.

Been looking at Santa Rosa occasionally and when it got mention recently I began to give it more serious consideration . Any opinions about the inquiry and subsequent DQ in todays 9th race ?

If you needed the #7 to stay second (or the #8 to stay third), my opinion is you got hosed.

#7 does bear out and bump #8, but #8 was just starting to lug in ever so slightly himself, and by getting bumped he straightens out AND changes leads...which the jock couldn\'t get him to do sooner!

In spite of that, the #8 was NEVER going to catch the #7, who spurted away from the contact easily and was clearly second; in fact the #8 was all out to hang on to 3rd.

The move-up to second was a gift for connections and people who had the #8 (the post-time fave) 2nd.

Bad call, in a race in which I had $0.00 invested. Look like a \"crowd-pleaser\" decision to me.

Rick B - I absolutely agree  . Thought perhaps the rider on the #7 - who ran a remarkable race , breifly lost an iron or jumped a foot print  ...

I Love Santa Rosa. Nothing like a good mule race! They can really run (I\'m serious). If I were president, I mandate MORE mule races. A mule in every garage!
Also a great chance to bet horses coming off the GG synthetic surface - LOTS of bargains! All the CALI fairs are great for that matter! What a grand old tradition. Always a Ferris wheel somewhere on the grounds, too.

The 6 horse was much the best at 9-1 in there, if you bet against him, you got lucky that the jock basically fell off him at the start, watch the replay and thank the racing gods that the jock on this one was incompetent.

Its a great racetrack, fantastic area, and the best fair racing around. Gotta love Black Ruby, huh Dana??

Oh yeah! I remember Black Ruby - not still racing right? That was a few years ago.
The jockey\'s look like giants, too! They should have a mule breeder\'s cup! Oh, right, no breeding going on there. I just hope they don\'t start cloning the great mules!

Paul, you may not believe this (and I hope you don\'t), but that west coast bias is showing through again. Black Ruby??? The Phipps barn has got a mule so fast (Black Cherry I think his name is) he makes Black Ruby look like a New York Bred Slow Rat!
