Title: Dunkirk Tough to Throw Out.....But....
Post by: APny on April 16, 2009, 02:09:49 AM
As already noted on the board...Dunkirk will have a real nice line going into the derby and is imo likely to run a new top considering he\'s still learning the game.  I know not everyone agrees but Gulfstream was extremely biased favoring front runners the day of the Florida Derby and he made up a ton of ground making his effort even more impressive.  QR re-broke just like several others did on that day..including Big Stick who was eventually disqualified.  The one big knock I have with him is Pletcher.  The guy doesn\'t show up on Derby day..he\'s 0 for 21.  Also...John Velazquez isn\'t riding  him.  He has first call on all of Pletchers runners...He didn\'t ride him in the maiden race either.  I take that as they didn\'t think much of him.  He also didn\'t run at 2.  Really interesting horse and as you can tell i\'m not quite sure what to do with him.

With the 5 weeks rest I\'m playing Dunkirk for another pairup at best if his works look okay.

TAP in 20 tries-has one new top in the Derby-Sam P an insignificant 3 point jump off slow pairs. Many of his horses have been used up trying to get there. On short rest I\'d think about an off/X,but he should be okay with the Fla Derby run on March 28th.Even with a pair he might be off the board-depending on the wide.Circular Quay paired up in his Derby running -0.25 and he wasn\'t in the super.Ditto for AGS who paired up with a wide 0.5.

Pletcher doesn\'t take inside posts for the Derby, but he should with Dunkirk.

Who said anything about him winning the race other than Silver on this board?

Some are thinking about him underneath.I\'m trying to budge him out of the tri/super on wide in a 20 horse field.

Presently 7-1 on oddschecker\'s KD win pool board . Imo will be shorter in the ex+ tri pools on race day and not a bounce proof pattern by any means even with the 5 weeks rest - not an easy call  either way to totally toss or key on top . . .

They say that the Derby goes to the fittest horse. I don\'t think Dunkirk will be the fittest horse there. He will be one of the ones with a chance though. I bet him a little in pool 3 because I don\'t think I will see 11-1 on Derby Day. I really like him to make the tri/super. QR\'s quarter crack has to move Dunkirk up some. It will be especially interesting if the track comes up wet on Derby Day.
