We have seen these types before in the BG. Wild Syn, Pistols and Roses, Sinister Minister, Bachelor Beau and on and on.
One hit wonders on the Big Stage then moving on to CD for the 1st Saturday in May only to see the bubble burst in an explosion of sorts.
Nice story about the one horse stable and all of that. But a Maiden 20K Claimer winning the Derby. Pleeeeeze this is the kind of things they make up in the movies.
Huge bounce candidate with choppy line may be the first one to throw out.
Charismatic?
Maiden 20K??
There was a three way shake so somebody must have seen Derby Winner potential in there somewhere.
How many Derbies this trainer won compared to D. Wayne (The King) Lukas.
The only thing missing in this story is the little boy/girl dying in the hospital bed and saying, \"If I had one wish in the whole world would be for General Quarters to win the Kentucky Derby.\"
And of course he wins to tears of joy.........
LOL...you\'re right about that.
Easy to harp on GQ for that Maiden tag, but then again, movies are made out of Maiden 20 horses winning grade 1 races like GQ just pulled off this weekend. By now you have seen his front end action which has soundness problems written all over it, a likely reason for the early pessimism...but i certainly don\'t see any choppy line in his two year old foundation. In fact it looks pretty nice without any regressions along the way. Coming out of the last he had every right to keep on going backwards but i have yet to see or hear what the BG figures were...if in fact he paired up or made a new top that is pretty impressive. Don\'t think he is quite fast enough to be the winner in a few weeks but i thought he was the second best (physical appearance) looking horse at Kee on Saturday and i wouldn\'t toss him underneath. Bred to have lungs. i dunno...i think i would chuck more than half the field before this one.
Kind of a David vs Goliath sorta deal.
These guys against the Sheiks, Pletchers Army, IEAH, Baffert, Team Giant Killer.
The sport has all kinds, which is really what makes it so good........

Mark Miller should be getting all the credit for this horse. Not the old guy whose taking back the horse after Miller got him right this winter

Probably should.
The three week turnaround between the BG and Derby requires a significant amount of sophistication. Or least there are a lot of guys out there who are using those tpyes of techniques. Blood, feed, etc.
This horse doesn\'t know if he broke his maiden for $20K claimer or $20Mil claimer. All he knows is his feet feel better and it helps him run faster.
People mention the \"not since Apollo angle with Dunkirk\".
If General Quarters wins the Kentucky Derby this will be the biggest miracle in the history of racing. And that is not dis on anyone around the horse or the horse himself.......
But a Maiden 20K Claimer winning the Derby
It\'s not these connections that ran him for a 20k tag. These connections won a Grade I with him.
Says a little about Ward, no?
