Title: Big Brown
Post by: richiebee on October 15, 2008, 05:48:16 PM
1) Absolutely Brilliant Performances at Hallandale, Louisville and Baltimore.

2) His greatest potential, and possibility of becoming a truly memorable racer
and influential stallion, would have been if he could have finished up by
winning one of the BC turf races. My opinion is that this is where his true
talent was, and I am not saying that he would have held up longer if strictly
trained and raced on the lawn.

3)What was behind him? As far as I can ascertain, 10 of the 19 runners who
finished well behind BB in Derby 134 have subsequently won stakes: Tale of
Ekati (Jerome), Colonel John (Travers), Anak Nakal (Pa. Derby), Pyro (Northern
Dancer Stk), Cowboy Cal (put up in Bryan Stk), Smooth Air (Ohio Derby),
Visionaire (Kings Bishop), Court Vision (Jamaica Stk (T)), Cool Coal Man
(ungraded Spend a Buck Stk at Mth) and Adriano (Kent Stk (T)).

Richie:

Those are all 3yo stakes races; what\'s so impressive?

I\'ll be more impressed if and when the names you mention defeat older horses.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

Richie,

basically slow horses beating each other.

just one guy\'s opinion, but I think this was the slowest group of 3 yr old routers in a while.

BB had one brilliant race. other than that, he was just a good 3 yr old imo.

Michael and Joe:

More facts/factors/opinions:

1) BB ran, according to TG, the fastest Derby Ever.

2) Did BB run a negative # in the Mth turf race? If so how many 3YOs put
up negative #s on both surfaces?

3) I do not know if the Derby field\'s 10 subsequent stake wins is impressive
or unimpressive, because I have not undertaken similar analysis for other years.

Richie

I have always respected your opinion on horse talent. Your list is great for reference. What I do see is BB beat horses that could not get beyond 9F. It was a slow crop of 3YO\'s for sure.

I also agree with you in thinking that BB would have been best suited for turf, and possibly would have been a superior runner on that surface.

It\'s always unfortunate to see them go down earlier than they planned.

I can easily consider him the best of this 3YO crop but not on my personal all time top 10, and possibly not even the top 25. Think I really needed to see the Curlin confrontation to get him lower on my all time list.

Just one guys opinion.

I feel better already, A Non Binding Racetrack Code Of Conduct, BRILLIANT!!.How sad for gamblers/fans that clueless clowns are at the helm in almost every facet of the game.

In this instance,NTRA Head, Wal-dope is kinda suggesting, for example, that if NYRA does not become a \"code member\" it\'s handle may go down but say Philly Park might get re-directed handle because it\'s a \"code member\".

I wonder what percentage of the big regular players will re-direct their bets to garbage quality racing at say, code member, Philly Park instead of say Saratoga, a non code member.
