Title: All-weather surface safety???
Post by: fasteddie on September 30, 2008, 06:39:39 AM
I see drf.com reports that 4 horses have been euthanized at SA since 9/20....I am all for horse safety, but is this the answer? Back in the late \'80\'s, didn\'t RP try a surface called Equitrack? I remember it was around for a few years; wonder what stats they kept on horse breakdowns....back in the late 1960\'s Calder installed something called Tartan track, but I think that was a failure also.

The connections involved feel that the surface had nothing to do with those breakdowns. This only confirms that horses will break down if they race/train on just about any surface.

Synth advocates still swear that it is the best way to keep horses sounder with less breakdowns and statistics seem to support that, although the breakdown difference to NY dirt surfaces is non existant for the past 2 years.
