I\'m starting this new thread so all the TG players and posters can chime in with
their selections on this unprecedented wagering opportunity at Saratoga...
an all maiden early pick 4. LOFL.
The sad thing might be that there are probably more opportunities in that 4
race sequence than there are in the 2 short field stakes later in the day.
Racing Secretary PJ Campo has relied heavily on turf racing at both Belmont
meets and Saratoga for the last few years and has been lucky; his luck seems to
have run out this Summer. But there are 4 maiden races today and 3 maiden races
Sunday and that is a travesty and it has nothing to do with the surface the
races will be run on.(Actually Sunday\'s card seems to present more
opportunities than today\'s in my opinion).
On the other hand, the criticism of the 5-1/2 furlong races may be a little
harsh. The industry is breeding young horses to be at their peak for that all
important 1/8th mile or 1/4 mile 2YO sale breeze, so why are we surprised that
races seem to be getting shorter?
