Title: For The Record
Post by: TGJB on December 05, 2002, 04:49:38 PM
I just got a call from an extremely irate Bob Baffert, who ripped me a new one for about 20 minutes. He says Allday did not treat Congaree, and that the horse ran clean, and we ended up talking about the drug situation in general. I have a pretty high regard for Bob, and I believe him.

JB:

I hope you\'re being facetious.

Yeah, on second thought I believe him too.  And Prince Ahmed died suddenly of a heart attack.

It\'s OK baby. I know it\'s our first date but I promise I\'ll still respect you in the morning.

So where did the conversation about \'the drug situation in general\' lead? Any new insights?

What do you now think about all those negative numbers? Do we accept that Left Bank and Congaree ran the two best races of all time because they are (were) that good?

And even more important, after talking (or more likely listening) to Baffert for 20 minutes, what do you now expect out of Congaree? Is he going to finally live up to the promise that he flashed as an early 3 year old? Or do you think he\'ll fade away again?

Baffert is horse racings version of \"Cooper\" from the Expedia.com commercial.

Anybody who believes that TGJB would listen to this guy (or anyone else for that matter) for 20 minutes, when he is being ripped a new A-hole and then TGJB says he still respects the guy, needs to consider taking a break from the races because your instincts are shot.

Congaree is a horse with a bum knee who just ran a negative 4, on a firm track, on a cold wet day. Syndication plans to be announced soon.

I was expecting a big # from him; he was
turf-to-dirt (remember, 3 mo. ago, P Day
worked him at CD on the grass and told BB
he hated it!) was coming back to his best track, and despite what BB says, this
horse is MADE for a 1-turn mile. JB: Makes
me wonder what DR. Fager\'s record mile
would rate!

Glad to hear you have such confidence in the ex-pharmaceutical salesman. Did you have a chance to ask him about steroid usage in his barn? The \"campaigns\" of horses like Indian Charlie, Excellent Meeting, etc?
