Title: Storm mesa's beyer
Post by: dannyboy135 on July 29, 2008, 04:50:44 PM
I read the post about the hard to reconcile beyers of the saratoga horses, this past weekend.

My filly won the san clemente breaking the stakes record and was given 95.  how, do beyers compare with thorograph numbers.  Any one know what thorograph number was assigned to storm mesa??

Imo opinion breyer\'s numbers don\'t compare. One of the finest horseman on the
planet holds TG figs in rather high regard. This is fact and don\'t ask for names.
Way to many inconsistencies with breyer, however I do love his chocolate swirl.

Dannyboy,

If you do own Sky Mesa, congratulations! Her turf debut was terrific. She attended a very fast early pace, checked off heels down the backside losing position and then ran them over in the lane.Regardless of her fig, an outstanding performance which was much better than the fig she gets considering the overall trip. Don\'t listen to any nonsense about her saving ground and the race NOT being as good as it looked, thats what tactical horses do that horses with heavy ground loss and good wide figs can\'t.

A 95 Beyer for a 3yr old filly on grass is a serious fig and may be app a TG 3.5 if Jerry sees the race as Beyer did.Incidentally, this year features some of the best 3yr old route fillys ever, with Zenyatta, Music Note, Proud Spell and your filly. Having seen SM \"grass\" I doubt she will get beat on that surface by any 3yr old grass filly that I have seen, assuming she stays good.Good Luck!

Mike,

Your description of Sky Mesa's race is a perfect illustration that how a figure is earned is just as important as the figure itself – if not more so. Jerry's figures do an excellent job of quantifying everything that can be quantified, including ground loss. However there are things like a troubled trip that cannot be quantified by any figure and must be considered as well.

Dannyboy,

My estimation is that Sky Mesa's 95 Beyer translates roughly to a TG 3.5, just like Mike's, though that depends on whether Jerry sees the race the same way as Beyer. I agree that that figure is very impressive for a 3Y0 filly making her debut, especially considering the trip. Good luck in the future with her. Please keep us posted the next time she runs.
