...Derrick Davis of Baltimore made the Pick Six bet through a telephone account with Catskill Regional Off-Track Betting Corp., based in Pomona, N.Y. He was the main focus of an investigation by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board until Thursday.
On Wednesday, Mike Francesa of New York radio station WFAN reported Davis also was the alleged winner of two Saratoga Pick Sixes and used the \"T\" shape bet pattern, singles in the first four races with all horses selected in the last two. The Saratoga Pick Six wagers in question were made Aug. 4, worth $421,998, and Aug. 17, worth $330,389. The bets were placed through New York City OTB. The New York Racing Association, which runs Saratoga, alerted racing officials Sunday night that there might be a problem with the Pick Six. Francesa, who quoted an anonymous source, said the investigation centered on Davis and possibly three accomplices. While this information was unsubstantiated, one piece fell into place Thursday...
horseplayers,
this guy has got be guilty. i hope it investigated quickly and monies are distributed to the real winners like me @ bc pic 6.
they already came out and cleared those two payoffs. they even told the tickets. they weren\'t 1X1X1XallXall. francesa is an idiot.
My earler \"And You Thought Davis Was A Good Handicapper\" post on the Sar pk6s was based on a story in the NY Post, itself not known as one of the most accurate publications around, though I still marvel at one of their most famous headlines,to wit, \"Headless Woman Found In Topless Bar.\"
After thinking about it some more, and receiving some input from those who understand this better than I do, Harn probably didn\'t need a confederate at Catskill OTB. When this system was introduced many yrs ago, one\'s acct no. was your social security number, so all Davis would have had to do was disclose his to Harn. Also, I am advised that someone in Harn\'s position could locate the bet just by how it was structured.
As for the timing of any payout to the honest bettors who had 5 of 6, my take is that despite what Fountaine had to say this weekend, the only way Harn & Davis could collect is if they filed a civil suit, which they would never do because that would open them up to questioning in a setting in which they couldn\'t plead the 5th. I\'m afraid it\'s going to be awhile before 5 of 6 collect anything.
Mall;
Sorry to nitpick, but it was a guy that was found - minus his noggin - triggering the headline \"Headless Body Found in Topless Bar\".
Also, the two \"questionable\" Spa pick-six scores appear to be lucky hits. One was won by a someone who played two $2 tickets. The other was a $16 ticket, with three singles and three doubles.
