Title: Big Brown - Double Negative
Post by: BitPlayer on May 09, 2008, 10:00:58 AM
I went through last year\'s TG assemblage of horses who had run \"neg 1\" or better prior to July 1 of their 3yo year, and looked for horses who, like Big Brown, had done it twice.  The list is below.  In parenthesis after each name is an indication of how the horse ran, relative to his top, in his first race after his second qualifying fig.

Afleet Alex (off 2.25; Belmont Stakes)
Egghead (off 4; Riva Ridge)
Lost In The Fog (off 2.25; Riva Ridge)
Smarty Jones (off 2; Kentucky Derby) [subsequently paired top in Preakness]
Songster (pair; not until July)
Stevie Wonderboy (no race)

Street Sense was not included in the study, but comes to mind as one who also performed the feat (in the BC Juvenile and Kentucky Derby).  He subsequently paired his top in the Preakness.
