Title: Removal Fodder
Post by: Chuckles_the_Clown2 on May 04, 2008, 10:11:16 AM
TGJB is gonna hate this, but my overall Derby record is now:

(21) 8-6-2-1

Since I discovered this site in 2000 it is:

(9) 5-0-1

2008-Big Brown-1st
2007-Street Sense-1st
2006-Sinister Minister-Also Ran
2005-Afleet Alex-3rd
2004-Smarty Jones-1st
2003-Funny Cide-1st
2002-War Emblem-1st
2001-Monarcho\'s-Point Given Box
2000-Anees*-Also Ran

*I had a large future on Anees and got trapped into supporting him, abhoring the \"dutch\". That said, I hated Fupeg.

B.T.B. (Before Thorograph Blog) I was:

(12) 3-6-1-1

Of course, I have no way to corroborate that.

1999-Menifee-2nd
1998-Indian Charlie-3rd
1997-Captain Bodgit-2nd
1996-Cavonnier-2nd
1995-Jumron-4th
1994-Southern Rhythm-Also Ran
1993-Sea Hero-1st
1992-Lil E. Tee-1st
1991-Strike the Gold-1st
1990-Summer Squall-2nd
1989-Easy Goer-2nd
1988-Forty Niner-2nd

Conclusion:

I\'m honing in on the fastest horses due to the information gleaned through this board.

I\'m still excited about this Derby. Can\'t wait for the Preakness.

2 wins to go.

Clown,

We don\'t care anything about you.

But since you want to post people\'s records, I have one for you.  It is the most important record since we don\'t take wins and losses to the bank.

Mr. Jellish has a record of

1 1-0-0  $223,000

Until you can approach his bottom line, which will be never......just shut up already.

In all seriousness, you are really a sad individual.  Downright pathetic.

After reading the single most ridiculous post in the history of this forum ( your bashing of Mr. Jellish after his score)...and thats saying something if some of you would like to reference my Big Brown comments, I can\'t believe our fine host continues to let you post your ridiculous drivel.

JB, you are truly a patient man.

Chuckles,

I\'m probably one of your few fans on this board. So let me give you a bit of advice. I suspect some of the natives are getting restless.

Stop putting up your Derby stats. Just post your opinions. People will read what you have to say about races and individual horses and either enjoy it or disagree based on their own general beliefs about the game. It actually has little to do with the merit of your opinions. It could be their own understanding (or lack thereof). There\'s a saying, \"To a man with only a hammer, everything looks like a nail\".

The other thing that never works is putting down others in order to build yourself up. Mr. Jellish made a major score. Regardless of whether you agree with his approach or not, it\'s polite to congratulate him, try to learn something from his reasoning (which I thought was laid out quite well and was very sound), and either apply something he had to say to your own play or not. You don\'t always have to be the biggest winner or have had the best opinion on a race to be a very sharp handicapper yourself.

kfach,
Very prudent advice you extend to Chuckles.  All of us are subject to picking the wrong horse, having the wrong theory, etc.  But, Chuckles insists on insulting people with his cute little remarks.  I was on the receiving end of a couple of his wise a@@ remarks, and I didn\'t appreciate it either.  But, its pointless to retort back to the man, cause he just doesn\'t get it.
I\'ve rarely seen someone so petty with jealousy.  Who cares what method the man used to hammer the race?  That money is gonna spend just fine.
When Chuckles stays on point, he can make some compelling cases for horses, when he gets full of himself, well, then, he really does get full of himself.
I hope Chuckles will tone it down to a respectful level, although, I don\'t think that\'s in his makeup.

As a newcomer to TG figs I thoroughly appreciate Chuckles contribution to the board. Who could possibly deny that he provides plenty of insightful comments.  But I think nerves are a bit on edge since many, including myself, allowed a very lucrative, logical, and hittable tri and super to slip through our fingers.  Hence the frustration.

In any case, I was most pleased to see Denis of Cork establish his position among the leaders of his division, albeit a weak edition of that division. But he\'s no Big Brown. If/when BB stumbles, Denis could be there.

As for the Big Brown-Eight Belles exacta, my 6 year old son nailed it cold and schooled his father this time. I\'m just hoping he can somehow erase the image of Eight Belles lying in a crumpled heap from his mind... it may take awhile.

Big Clown:

Thats quite an impressive record, and must have resulted in quite a financial
windfall. That being said, how is it that you find yourself in the position of
having to \"red board\" the Derby seminar? Please don\'t tell me that the $30 or
$40 it would cost you to purchase these products in advance was a large part of
your Derby \"stake\" because that would be just too sad.

To give credit where due, you correctly identified the top 2 finishers in this
years race well before post time, actually weeks before. You also correctly
stated that the value in this Derby lay in the size of the field. I hope you
were well rewarded for recognizing this.

Sadly for me, this was another year (like 2005) where not only did I not cash a
Derby wager, but there was no point in the race where any of the runners I was
alive with (Oaks/Derby doubles and doubles with Einstein) had any chance of
winning.
Title: Figuring
Post by: Chuckles_the_Clown2 on May 07, 2008, 05:06:22 AM
Richie, I spend a lot of time on the maturing 3YO\'s and the Derby has been good to me, but not any better than any number of other graded races for 3YO\'s. I\'m probably too Scottish and prefer the ease of the format with other performance indicators, which get modified.

I \"modify\" all figures I\'ve ever used and rely more upon what I make of the effort than what a figure producer says. I made my own figures for the Florida circuit for a number of years and found that horses I scored highest didn\'t fair as well as horses that I deduced would run well. That said, I Red Board this time of year to corroborate the performance level of the the crop. Later in the year, I know where they are and don\'t even bother doing that.

Regarding the performance level of the crop, on the TFigs, I don\'t think there were two faster, more consistent horses than the Derby Perfecta horses. BJB had run 0, -2 and Eight Belles four successive O\'s with the weight allowance. Among the modifications were the Derby winner,I modified Smooth Air to a 1.  I had Pyro at a 3, I modifed Colonel John to a 0, but believe in all likelihood that he left his race on the training track.

Regarding Eight Belles, she was steadied twice in that affair and was gaining ground on the winner at the end once she got fully in gear. I do think the outside was a little better, but Belles didn\'t get inside until very late. It\'s a shame, she was a very special filly. I think Jones should throw the monkey off his back by entering Proud Spell in the Belmont, but I doubt his courage is there at this time.

Caveat, I also Modifed Denis of Cork and left him out and Bob Black Jack and Monba the wrong direction as well.
