Title: Early Derby Odds....
Post by: jimbo66 on May 02, 2008, 06:46:26 PM
Some interesting things to note on the Derby prices.

1.  Big Brown is unlikely to be the 2-1 that a lot of us on this board thought.  Looks like between 5-2 and 3-1.

2.  Pyro is way overbet.  The Oaks/Derby DD with Pyro is abysmal.

3.  Court Vision is certainly the \"wise guy\" horse.

4.  Hard to believe Tale of Ekati is going to be triple the price of Court Vision.  ToE pressed the fast pace and still beat him by 1 length and change. Like him or not, 40-1 is awfully long on this horse.  (of course I am biased as he is my pick)

5.  The filly is a miserable bet at 8-1.  Winning the Derby for a filly is much harder than winning the Belmont.  Comparisons to Rags to Riches feat is not relevant.  Rags to Riches faced colts that had already run 2 legs of the Triple Crown and she tracked a slow pace for a mile and a quarter then outsprinted them home.  Eight Belles will be in and amongst a field of 20, which is double the size of the Belmont field, she will have to run hard all the way, and do this after bearing in during her last start, hinting that her form is \"over the top\".

6.  Big Truck at only 20-1 might be the worst price in the race.  Big Truck should be 200-1 or longer.

7.  Despite the glowing comments about his workouts this week, Denis of Cork is a very appetizing 25-1.

Very very interesting odds board if you don\'t think much of the top 3.

Jimbo:

Wait until the IEAH Wall Street money comes in on both BIG BROWN & COURT VISION.

I think 45-1 on TALE OF EKATI is ridiculous. He\'s not my selection, but that\'s incredible value for anyone who likes him. He\'s accomplished a lot more than half the mules in here. Too many people are putting too much into Prado jumping to ADRIANO who probably can\'t warm TOE up on a dirt track.

It\'s going to be a wild race!!!

Good Luck,
Joe B.

Not that I like his chances, but Tale of Ekati\'s early odds make no sense.  I would have thought he would drift up from Friday, if anything.

My friend likes him for the win and thought 9-1 would be fair value while hoping for mid-teens.  He\'s gonna be happy.
