Title: More on the p6 alleged ScAm
Post by: ExPlayer on October 29, 2002, 09:12:54 PM
From the latest at the DFR:

The pick six appears particularly vulnerable to computer manipulation because of the way data is transmitted from many different sources into commingled parimutuel pools. According to mutuel managers at prominent tracks, the information regarding the amounts of pick six wagers is transmitted the instant a wager is placed, but the actual structure of the bet, including the specific horses that are being used, is not transmitted until after the fourth race is run in the pick six sequence.

The data is not transmitted all at once because pick six wagers include so many potential combinations that the size of the computer files could create traffic problems in the sophisticated totalisator network that links tracks across the country and continually updates wagering information. Instead, only the complete information from tickets still \"live\" after four races is transmitted into the commingled pools before the fifth race.
-------------------------------------------

This is obscene and totally bogus. Whoever set this system up ought to be indicted for terminal idiocy.

Too much data for transmission? If that\'s the best excuse they have, we need to fire Autotote and Amtote and bring in someone competant.

Only horseplyers would put up with this kind of nonsense for so many years.

OK,

This is one coincidence too many. The fact that the precise wagers are not fed in until after the fourth leg and it just happens that he played a 1x1x1x1 x All x All  ticket for more than $2 per combo and that he works with computers and that a clever computer guy with the right access could possibly slip in a such a bet after the fact is just too much of a coincidence.

Even the OJ jury would hang this guy (maybe) ...

Chris

P.S. How often has this happened in the past? The good news is that it may be unique to the Pick-6. Hopefully, this will eventually do for the integrity of wagering what the Tylenol scare did for the safety of over-the-counter drugs.

Chris: They\'re also looking into unusual circumstances involving several large Pik ^ carryovers at Saratoga.

I understand the \"cycling\" required for odds boards and the like, it would be insane, but not having instant odds on the board just after the bell is ludicrous. I\'ve seen them on ocassion \"cycle\" through twice during the course of a race. The grumbling in the crowd at OTB\'s and simulcast centers watching the odds change during the race is BAD for racing and undermines the integrity issue constantly. If Gallop polled folks about racing integrity, what % would say racing is fixed and that horses are drugged? 80%+ I\'d say and that\'s the rub here.

The integrity issue is being won, hands down, by the casinos. How many people would be flocking there if they thought the various games were rigged? I\'m not saying racing will enjoy rapid increases in attendance and $$$ put through the windows if they clean up their act (it\'s a difficult game that most are happy to ignore, too much thinking involved) but it wouldn\'t hurt.
