Title: Anyone else have Harlene in the Hol 9th??
Post by: sekrah on April 27, 2008, 05:30:41 PM
3rd best pattern by my handicapping and the two better were stuck in the 11th and 13th post.

Scored a pretty big one here!  Had a great weekend with TG!

That puts a great cap on your weekend; from reading your posts you cashed all
bets that you made the entire weekend!

Good call on Harlene\'s patterns. Of course you could have just as simply made a
strong trainer punch on Dougie O, who has served up more milkshakes than old
Tom Carvel.

Sekrah, if you get tired of betting Penn National and the Cal state bred races,
I hear they are running a couple of big races at CD this weekend.

No.. i lost races this weekend, Today I was down pretty much 70% of what I won Saturday until I hit Harlene.  By no means do I want to make it sound like I\'m only picking winners, there\'s PLENTY of losers in there.  I was getting crushed today before that race!

Yep, I\'m getting ready for Saturday.  I even put in for 1/2 day vacation as I\'m scheduled to go into work this Saturday afternoon.

Holding a 90-1 futures ticket on Smooth Air.. Was pretty excited about it until the fever/infection news.  Hopefully it didn\'t affect him at all.  He\'ll need to be 100% to have a chance.   Going to start planning contingencies here soon.

Apparently Smooth Air went back to the track today, and if he is otherwise fit
2 days away should not hurt him. Best of luck at 90/1. He seems like a very
honest colt who would apparently move up on a wet track.

I am also scheduled to work Derby night, but have traditionally (every year
since I started this job in 1986) taken the night off. Last year on Derby
weekend my job had a lot going on and one of my supervisors asked \"What if
you only took half the night off?\"(I work 12 hour shifts), I replied that I
would only be half drunk when I came in.

Good job at Penn Irrational and Pollywood. Good to hear that the TGs are
holding up at tracks large and small.

I\'m on 12 hour shifts as well, for 3 straight years my shift landed on Derby Day. :-/.

Penn National is my home/closest track.  I\'m about 90 minute drive from there and pretty much grew up going to the nearby Penn National OTB parlor, so I have a bit of a connection to the track and like playing it.

TG\'s are definently a winner everywhere.  If I can just control the urge to play EVERY SINGLE RACE, I\'d have a much better chance at being a consistant winner.  As it is, I play way too many races.

Good Job on Harlene,
I also connected on him..I looked at the TG number and then looked at the Past performance and said Wha??
you had the same analysis I had...11 and 13 best numbers but would probably lose ground outside while this maiden on the rail with TG number power saves ground on the rail...I was the only one yelling in the OTB after the race..Caught the late P3 , Exacta.  Missed the pick 4 as I had two in the first leg and could not connect...
Thanks TG...That horse was unplayable unless I had those numbers...

I\'ve had Harlene on my DRF horses to watch for some time now because of turf breeding and trip handicapping.  Each time she runs I have made a token win bet along with exactas and Pk3\'s.  It payed off.  I hit the win, exacta, and pk3. the latter two because of Thoro-graph.  Thanks.

I went 4 deep and used her in the pick 6, but missed the 3rd (singled the 1) and last legs(6 & 10)... Second Sunday in a row with a 30-1 winner on the pick 6 and couldn\'t finish it off.

It\'s always so awesome to hear of such a selection AFTER the race! Why not tell us BEFORE next time! I had RAGS at the track and Harlene did not look nearly as good as he looked on Thorographs. Yes, if you detect some bitterness here, it\'s there. I was alive for about 20K with Dewey\'s Special who\'s line looked unbeatable on RAGS and very mediocre on T-G\'s. If Valdivia had just stayed on the rail, you\'d be discussing how you almost made a big score, but the California jockeys are all quite the horror show when it comes to race riding fundamentals. Before you cheer Mike Baze for bringing Harlene home check out his ride on Mauri Mark in an earlier race. Just remeber as I always do, when you make a big score, there\'s another guy who just missed his big score. I never heard of so many people hammering a horse that went off 33-1! Next time tell us BEFORE. If I saw that line in T-G\'s I certainly would have used him!

I had Dewey too, so I know how you feel.  The 1 did look playable, but I just couldn\'t bet the maiden against winners.  We can get\'em Wednesday Dana!

Dana,

If I had to use Rags instead of Thoro-Graph I would quit betting horses. I\'ve used both. Come join the party.

Frank,

Who do like in the Derby?

Silver,

I\'ll be spreading in the tri & super and not using BB, Pyro or the Colonel. I don\'t love the race but I guess it\'s my obligation as a horse playing degenerate to bet the Derby.

lol

Colonel John went from being the horse that \"Couldn\'t be factored on Dirt\" to \"The horse that went too fast on it.\"

WOW!!

If that one comes in have a couple of packing bodyguards around to help you get out of there.

I\'ve used both for many years & let\'s not get into this discussion again! There will always be cases where you look at a race and see how one system got it right and the other didn\'t -- in this case T-G\'s were MUCH better -- hands down. What I really want to see in such performance figures is a big J for \"juiced\" effort or M for Milkshake, or something like that, so I\'ll know next time not to bet him! If in this year\'s Derby, for example, if they are really monitoring these horses closely, things should be really interesting, and I\'ll handicap with the notion the juice trainers aren\'t going to be as effective. That idea is ironic for me to ponder though as Kentucky is one of the most crooked states in terms of what they do to horses, second only in my humble opinion to California. I still want to know why they can\'t test every horse that runs and have a website with the results of all the tests, so indeed we could pencil in our own J or M after the figure.

Well, if I like anything on Wednesday, I\'ll tell you BEFORE the races!

LOL...Or how about an HS for head scratcher or head shaker.  You know ones that win and you go back and pour over your sheets, drf, national turf workouts, and racing digest and can\'t find an oodle of evidence that gave that horse a chance of winning. The guy next to you is jumping up and down \'cause he bet his sister birthday.  You gotta love this game!

If you\'ve used both products for many years now you should be well aware that TG is vastly superior to the other. As far as J and M notations go, good luck with that. It would be nice though.

LOL...
Thank god I learned my \"moral\" two years ago and the winning has been much more regular..

Sorry about that beat Dana...I was in an OTB in NYC..They just \"upgraded\" and put in a bathroom not too long ago so you know there is no internet connection..I have posted picks previously but i\'m still a little leary at posting picks for Synthetic surfaces..although the Cushion surfaces seem to be a little more predictable than the Poly.
I agree with you on the cal jocks..some of them make no sense..Especially Joel Roario,I thinks he checks his horse every race..
