Title: Rabbit Boss
Post by: richiebee on April 05, 2008, 06:35:10 AM
The IEAH/ Winstar people entered Inner Light as a \"Rabbit\" for their Derby
hopeful Court Vision in today\'s Wood. Some observations:

1) Both Court Vision and Inner Light were purchased at the same 2YO in training
sale: CV for 350K and IL for 650K.

2)Inner Light\'s last 3 running lines in DRF do not show that he has exceptional
stakes quality early lick, nor was he on the lead in any of these 3 events.
I\'m handicapping the race and thinking \"What rabbit?\" or \"Silly rabbit\". Then I
see that IL will be ridden by the NY circuit\'s best gate rider, CC Lopez, who
has taken ONE mount for Bill Mott in the last 15 months.

What are Chuckie\'s instructions... to try and outbreak War Pass and throw some
mud in his eye, or to try to stay glued to WP for as long as possible?

3)Court Vision is the only 3YO in here with a win over the surface-- a victory
in the Remsen, run in a glacial time with glacial fractions.

4) For all of Bill Mott\'s success, it must be noted that he has had very little
impact on the Triple Crown races and Triple Crown preps.

In the Wood, give me (1) Court Vision and (2) Texas Wildcatter.

Other races in the all stakes P4:

Bay Shore: (2) Make the Point,(3)Gattoprado, (4)Laysh Laysh Laysh, (8)J Be K.

Excelsior: (2) Magna Graduate-- inconsistent but the class of the race; won
this race 1 year ago, his last win, (3)Nite Light-- 4 straight wins, 3 in
stakes, could have been claimed for 35K at Mth last summer.

Carter: (1) Lord Snowdon, (2) King of the Roxy,(4) City Attraction, (6) Spring
at Last (should be favored but gives weight and has no wet track experience),
(9) Bustin Stones.

2,3,4,8/2,3/1,2/1,2,4,6,9 x $1= $80

I must say...i\'m pretty impressed with the last half of the card at Aqu.  Very competitive stakes races..In many of them 3/4 of the field have chances.

Bee,

.. isn\'t it amazing how so many so called great horsemen never win when their horses are slow.

I looked at Inner Light with the same suspicion. But the more I looked at him the more I\'ve come to believe he is entered with bona fide intent. I reached that tenative belief with a race by race analysis, which I\'ll repeat here. Starting always from the first race and working to most recent. Songandaprayer is a young sire and was exceptionally fleet. Assuming Mott was consulted in regard to the purchase he did go for 650k. Not chicken feed by any means:

Aug15- Sent out for training race
Sept28- Meets Anak Nakal and Da\'Tara, tires in lane for closely beaten 4th
Oct13- Back on Relatively short rest for big Fla Bred two turn pot. Mott has faith, but he tires badly after a half.
Dec13- A nice little break and BANG wins for fun to break maiden
Dec29- Note its Tampa and he does not get out of the gate (That place is fraught with peril for ship ins) He runs a nice race nevertheless.
Feb9- Sealed Slop at Hallandale. I didn\'t see the race, but who wants to bet that Saratoga Russell didn\'t go wire to wire?
Mar7- Granted the fractions are fast, and that he did not come home fast, but he did lay off the leaders and come home best.

I think this horse is bona fide and likely to shadow War Pass.

My instructions would be break sharp, secure a good position just off War Pass and try to take him down the lane.
