Title: 2008 Derby
Post by: pj on March 10, 2008, 09:03:17 AM
IMHO, we have yet to see the REAL winner of this years Derby. I for one, am happy about this. There will be plenty of money \"burnt\" on War Pass and Pyro, if they both make it to Churchill. In a lot of ways, this is the way it was for many years. I hope that history has something to teach us.

Out of all the horses that have run so far, Pyro would beat them hands down in my honest opinion.  War Pass is a nice miler horse that is going to get exposed in his next race I don\'t care where it is at.  War pass reminds me so much of Indian Blessing it\'s scary, speedball who can\'t slow down, we see what happened to Indian Blessing and it will happen to War Pass too.  I really have not seen anybody else to get excited about.  I know it\'s March but any newcomers only have two months to catch up to a very good horse. I personally think The Derby and Preakness will be Pyro\'s to lose...The Belmont though will be another story..I believe there is another Better than Honour colt looking to come for the 1 1/2 mile Stakes (Casino Drive)..look out until then..Just my opinion..

I\'d thought Tomcito winning the Belmont was a foregone conclusion.

I wasn\'t trying to say that Casino Drive will win .  I was alluding to the fact that better than honour has produced the last two winners of the Belmont stakes and any progeny from her going forward in the Belmont Stakes should be respected.

hey fellas , PYRO is running 3\'s outside of th BC slopfest. Unbelievable. AT 4-1 and no better than a few on the bubble, a major underlay today, next stop keeneland, yeah that will help. I say a major play against, hope he wins next out too.

Pyro\'s last two 3\'s are somewhat attributed to the slow paces which are making the final times slow.Pyro is finishing very fast but will have to do that going longer and off faster paces to prove his mettle.

Mike,

Right now do you see War Pass on an uncontested lead? I don\'t see anyone keeping up or putting on pressure, which does not bode well for most of these. However, guess you can always find a cheap speedball rabit somewhere(enough qually money?).

I think 5-1 on the field was like stealing money.

Tony,

With 20 in the derby, the break is big. Right now, I don\'t see enough early gas to hurt War Pass and I am not totally convinced he is one dimensional speed. His last race, the \"workout\"showed him finishing with authority off a slow pace, free running horses usually can\'t do that. So his Tampa race will tell us more about his 3yr old demeanor.A very slow bunch so far, except WP, Pyro and Big Brown.

Graded stake money should keep any true rabbit out of the race.

I never played a future bet until this year, in the last pool I thru down on SMOOTH AIR the hutch winner at over 99-1, I thought about the field too. We shall see.

I too got down on Smooth Air @ 159-1 in pool 1 and again at 192-1 in pool two. The only two future wagers I\'ve made. I\'m just loving the long works at Calder. Two 1 mile works since the Sam F. Davis where Smooth Air did everything right but win. He\'ll go in the Tampa Bay derby this weekend and then its on to the Illinois Derby, The owners are from Chicago.

I was told there would be only 3 horses running in the Tampa Bay Derby...Anybody hear the same?
