Title: Donn Corleone
Post by: Chuckles_the_Clown2 on February 02, 2008, 03:12:12 PM
Did anyone else enjoy that race?

Whacking an odds on is like taking out a rival mob boss. You just gotta know when to pull the trigger.

I\'m certain I\'ll catch some red boarding static, but I think I made clear who the key was.

I could Kiss the Kid.

You have got to be kidding. If you wanted to make clear who the key was, all you had to do was say it.

If this isn\'t crystal clear, I\'ll write-in Bill O\'Rielly and forgo a lever pull for Ron Paul, the ONLY man who can save America:

Sping at Last - I do not think this is a Turf Horse. Last time he tried turf in the midst of an improving dirt campaign it tended to indicate dirt was his game and/or that his previous trainer didn\'t know what the hell he was doing. Granting the latter is part of the story, the improved turf effort last tends to indicate this horse is even more now than then. no drills over the surface.[/b]

Knock it off. As you yourself said, you said good things about all of them.

I think I said good things about them all. I feel like Len Friedman, but this is a very interesting race.

The only thing you say that makes any sense is that you feel like Len Friedman.  You, Len, and the assorted boot lickers (razzle??) on the other site are the only people that would claim that your analysis somehow picked the winner. Just when we think you can\'t sound any more idiotic, you manage to do it. Nice.

The only thing idiotic here is your failure to cash the exacta I gave out cold. Applying Torah code to the entire post, you will see I also nailed the Magna 5, Dave Clark 5 and provided a nifty recipe for artichoke crab dip.

Now, wait a minute. I think its clear as a bell that when I chime in it\'s to beat odds on horses. (Unless theres some kind of sentimental attachment and none exists with Daaher. Hell, I didn\'t even spell his name right. He was the horse to bet against being odds on with two-turns and the weight factor.)

I stated that Daaher was marginally faster than Spring at Last, who was over six times the price. I did not refer to speed in regard to any other horse but did state categorically that A.P.Arrow fit like a glove.  (We\'ll see what TGraph said about the speed figures coming in tomorrow in the Red Board...Though I won\'t be Red Boarding for older horses. I know where they stand. I\'ll be red boarding for the 3YO\'s).

If you thought I mentioned Fairbanks and Brass Hat to put them in the perfecta,  thats your prerogative. I think Brassies two injuries and the passage of time have taken the starch out of him. Losing to A.P.Arrow last was proof enough of that and now he\'s lost to him again.

If you don\'t want to think Chuckles had it all in multiples, thats your prerogative. But you gotta admit the Pièce de résistance was the call on Kiss the Kid. How many other handicappers do you know who could have filled out with that  horse? Pre race I was worried the bastard might sink me and dang if he almost didnt\'.

Lucky Chuck

P.S. You responded to my clone. Ask him if he had the Swale.

ctc - the groundhog came out with predictions today too and also liked spring at last ! ... can you give your customary derby futures play again this year  ?

Don Chuckles:

When channeling Len, take a page from his book and put your key at the
southernmost part of your selection post. That way all of your detractors
will have no doubt as to what your key selection is.

Your post race posts show that you are in mid season form even well before
the serious Derby preps, though it seems as if you have spent more time with
Don Peyote than Don Corleone.

I find myself in the unusual (and unenviable) position of being on the same side of an issue as Chuckles.  If you can\'t see that the horse had no business being 45-1 even AFTER the race, may God have mercy on your souls.

Unfortunately, I had him boxed with A.P. Arrow and the chalk, so I got nothing out of it.  That\'s what makes this game so tough, you don\'t get anything for spotting a live, overlaid longshot, you still have to hook him up right.  But he was a serious overlay and I\'m not just saying that after the race.

Bally, to your credit you boxed. If he had gotten second I would have been beat. My eternal flaw is getting cute when winnowing down combinations. I\'ve lost some big pots that way. If he hadn\'t of taken it to Daaher maybe he moves up, maybe Daaher holds on, but then I don\'t think it was Daahers day. That Cigar Mile looked to be a big effort and the weight and turns had to be factored.

Apparently, you and I weren\'t the only ones that thought the Kid was exotics candy. Here\'s what T-Graph\'s analyst said:

\"Favored Daaher looks like most likely winner. Spring At Last, Kiss the Kid and Brass
Hat are the ones to use underneath. Tri and Super Key—#s-- 4 Over 2, 7, 8. B\"

You have to admit that was some very serious winnowing by the TGraph Staff too. A very professional bet. Especially not going \"ALL\' with the Superfecta Slot. They just got a little off track in keying the Career Top horse and leaving out A.P.Arrow. The latter being the most quizzical to me, but you have to respect that they offered a scalpel bet.

I thought the Clark was scored very, very fast by T-Graph, if someone lost that race because they bet A.P.Arrow or Brass Hat on Top it may have been due to how fast the Clark \"came in\".

I also thought the Goldolphin Mile was overlooked both in figure and in quality. That was the key race. The issue was extrapolating it to 9 poles. On TFigs I may not have keyed Spring at Last. He looks marginally less appealing. However, I thought more of his losing efforts in California and there was a lot more to my bet than Figure consideration.
