Title: GP race 7 (missing number
Post by: EJXD2 on February 02, 2008, 08:12:48 AM
Does anyone know the figure for #6 Unbridled Refrain\'s debut? From the chart of that debut it looks as if he would fit well here, having closed in :18.80 \"handily.\" I\'m not a big fan of Referee or Coal Play, so it\'d help to know who has a shot otherwise at a nicer price than those two favorites.

Thanks

There is no Thoro-Graph number for Unbridled Refrain at Crc on 1/2/8. It\'s purposely blank. The figure maker, JB, was unable to make figures for the race which he felt accurately measured the performance of the runners. He\'ll explain later.

There was no way to do a figure for that race with a straight face, which undoubtedly did not stop others from making one. There were only 2 other sprints on the day, and the track speed changed dramatically between them (and to a lesser degree for the routes as well). The variability probably was due in part to high winds and even higher gusts that day, which both dry out the track and affect the horses within a race to a degree that is hard to measure accurately, so you end up relying heavily on the histories of the horses in each race, making each a stand-alone. The race in question had a five horse field of (by memory) all first time starters and horses that had run once-- you couldn\'t use them, and you couldn\'t hang it on the surrounding races.

I\'ve marked the race for review, and I\'ll go back after they\'ve run a couple of times and see if there\'s something that fits well. There may not be-- it may always stay a box.
