Trying to beat High Finance and Lawyer Ron
Forego: Awesome Twist, Benny the Bull, Simon, Midnight
Woodward: Diamond Stripes, Magna Grad (other Pletcher), Corinthian
Race 11--The German bred Schoolboy is not that much slower than the
McGaughey/Mott/Motion runners, should be a decent price
I have no clue in the Forego, I am sad to admit. All the horses look pretty similar to me and when I see that I pass.
The Woodward looks like a four horse race in my opinion. Lawyer Ron, Brass Hat, Corinthian, and Political Force. As much as I would like to find an alternative I cannot bet against Lawyer Ron. I believe he is just too sharp. At his morning line he would be my bet. However if LR is 3/5, I will consider gambling with one of the other three.
Midnight Lute...... big time
Lute always takes lots of cash, gotta wait and see.
But 1st things 1st... Sinkwich to get the day going
Aqab in the second would get me going.
Aqab is twice the price of Mott\'s horse on the board and went for 70 times more at KEE.
We both started bad.
The 3rd race at Saratoga is very interesting.
This looked like a five horse field to me: Owner\'s Manual, Brilliant Son, Vitruvius, Americanus, and Starbase.
Owner\'s Manual ran a very good race first off the layoff against a very weak field on July 7th. He came back in a mile turf in which he ran an even race. He is a lightly raced 3yo that has right to improve again. Garcia adds to the price for Frankel but he is not my top pick.
Brilliant Son has run some very good races in the past espically last out. However he is 4yo with 10 races and I would rather be on one of the 3yo\'s in here. BTW...Didn\'t Craig Perret used to own this horse?
Vitruvius ran well last out and was scratched against Any Given Saturday in the Dwyer where he would have been an overlay. I am shocked he is not 6/5 although there is still time. If you ignore his last race at a mile and rate him off of his first race at 7/8 that would make him an underlay at any price. I like his breeding though.
Americanus has run three good races in a row since joining the Contessa barn. That was an overrated Grade Two race last out but he is the best sprinter in the field. As a lightly raced 3yo, he has a right to improve again. I have him as my top pick and 3/2 on my line.
Starbase is a bit overraced in my opinion. Has run well short or long on dirt or poly. Probably will hit the board.
Right on. That\'s the opposite of \"short\" I would say. The work seemed over the top to me, but I guess it was just right.
Xichi:
I was at Saratoga today and snuck into the paddock before the 2nd race. I eavesdropped on D. Wayne and then on McLaughlin. I distinctly heard Kiaran say that the horse wasn\'t ready and they were going to \"let him run around out there\". He then said that he expected him to finish up the track, but in different words. It makes you wonder why we would ever bet on these firsters doesn\'t it? Needless to say, I dropped him from my P4 as soon as I heard it. Sorry you weren\'t there to do the same. On the bright side, you might be able to play him next time at a price, and it\'s good to know that the connections didn\'t expect anything out of him today.
