Brad Free\'s drf article today about non-sheets using professional Gary Young, who relies primarily on watching & interpreting workouts. Speaking generally, to the extent they are considered at all, interpretation of works is IMHO one of the biggest weaknesses of sheet handicappers, & perhaps of all handicappers for that matter.
BTW, in light of the fact that the title is awarded to the jock with the most wins, not the highest % or roi, it might be worth considering, as I\'ve been told, that Bailey is letting out all the stops in an effort to pass Prado. As a result, he is taking mounts & riding in races he wouldn\'t otherwise consider, raising the possibility that instead of the usual underlays which figure, JD will also be on a no. of underlays which don\'t even figure the last week of the meet, starting today for example.
It\'s great that this guy makes a living at the track. Where i have a problem is, why is he telling everyone else who wants to try to be one not to even mess with it. Says something like too many long hrs or something. First of all not all people are going to go about it like he does. Where he might take 10hrs out of the day, it might take someone else 5hrs. big deal its a job right??
This is what i\'m going to do around Oct. is going to go from full to part-time at my job and do of other part betting. If that sounds right. Starting out with a 5,000 bankroll. Oh well.......Maybe i will write my own story in the DRF someday. Not.
I doubt that Mr Young sought out the drf to offer his views or that most people in his position would give different advice. I remember many yrs ago reading an article by a professional handicapper, who became one because of a physical disability, & his basic theory was that if you have the skills necessary to make a living handicapping, then you would be much more successful & make much more money at any profession other than handicapping. I wish you all the luck in the world with your plan but suggest that you proceed very cautiously.
Well thats why i\'m still working there part-time, my job is to cover my bills and insurance. Thanks Mall.
