Title: HRTV and Direct TV
Post by: Majestic Paul on August 27, 2007, 08:00:15 AM
Has anyone found information on when HRTV is coming to Direct TV (which does not currently have HRTV?  I have complained to Direct TV and checked the HRTV website.  I have searched via google and cannot find anything even close to giving me the real scoop on how close or far they are from making a deal to carry HRTV on Direct TV.

I checked in to changing to DISH network (Currently Carries HRTV) and it just too expensive to replace HD DVRs ($549 each) in additional rooms to replace the already working Direct TV HD DRVs I have to justify a change to Dish.  I guess you get the first one free but after that, it is a bit costly.

Also, dose anyone know of the live feeds from the tracks being able to be accessed for home use to watch races via satellite for a monthly fee?  I know there are ways to watch races via Internet on a somewhat grainy feed that always seems to need buffering and stops when one of my horses is in the middle of a race.

Thanks

Paul,

Many of the internet wagering services, such as Brisbet, have live streaming video from most tracks as well as an archive of past races. In the case of Brisbet it\'s free but you have to bet a modest minimum amount on your account for the video service. Picture quality is OK with broadband connection.

Paul:

I am a Direct TV subscriber and as you probably know DTV now offers TVG. I do
not know if this is an exclusive arrangement which would prevent DTV from
offering HRTV.

Let me say that IMO TVG has some very competent on air talent, but also has
quite a few people who seem to be learning about Racing while they are on the
job.

I am not technically inclined, but you would think that there is some way to
uplink a PC to a conventional TV to get a better picture.

NYRA\'s feed was available to me gratis on Channel 71 on Time Warner Cable. The
NYRA feed is of course available on NYRA\'s internet site but a word about that:
In the golden days of wagering from Living Room Downs, I was able to set myself
up with NetTeller and Pinnacle in about 15 minutes; it took 4 days to get
hooked up with NYRA\'s internet wagering site and who knows if they
are  \"floating\" the money in wagering accounts to fund the most recent rounds
of purse increases.

(Editorial Note: The quality of NY racing for the most part gets worse and
worse, and they keep increasing the purses. This means that people (especially
off track) are pouring more and more money into NY racing-- what does this say
for the quality of racing in other venues?)

I believe that Brisbet no longer takes wagers on NYRA tracks and as such the
live feed which Bobphilo was describing may no longer be available for NYRA
tracks.

Racing is costing itself money each day by making it more difficult rather than
less complicated to watch and wager on Racing from the comfort of one\'s home.

Richiebee,

thanks for the info, I already have TVG and I like it, however, The horses that I own are mainly on racing at  Arlington and Fairgrounds.  Both of which are part of the Churhill Downs Empire carried exclusively on HRTV (a recent switch from TVG).  This is strictly to follow horses that I own and race.  I have a great internet feed that is fine (betpad.com a/k/a winticket.com) it is just much more clear on the tube.  Plus you get a bit of fun comentary as well.

FG is my favorite winter track and one of my favorite tracks overall. CD
purchased the old track on Gentilly with the intention of improving it and
competing with Gulfstream during the winter months. It is strange that they
would limit, rather than expand, their potential wagering audience.

Racing\'s got it all wrong. Over the last 2-3 years it has been proven that
people will bet hopped up,inbred horses running over quicksand. Racing\'s
biggest problem is the restriction of access to internet wagering.

You are correct that brisbet does not take NYRA wagers nor offer a live feed.  However, you can get the race reply a few minutes after it is official.

HRTV was on Direct TV but they weren\'t on there for long when the plug was pulled.  No idea why.  Haven\'t heard that they\'ll be going back to Direct TV.

You ought to check into Dish, might not be as expensive as you think.  I think their deal right now is a free DVR that will work on 2 tvs, and you can get a second DVR that will work on another 2 tvs for $99 and $9 a month, something like that.

The problem with Dish - at least for some of us - is that their satellites are lower in the sky so if you have a tree or two in the way, you may not be able to get a Dish signal, even if the Directv signal is fine.

Only the audio is live, but following a link on the NYRA site allows you to register for free NYRA replays on RaceReplays.com.  The replays generally become available about the same time prices are posted.
