has the fast negative \'1\' in th La Derby, closing from post 1 in the 1 1/16m race. had it tougher in the Derby, starting from post 16, and having to unleash the late run from a longer distance.
CQ now cuts back a bit, draws perfectly, and gets good pace to run at.
a return to negative territory? not so sure, as I still think he is going a bit longer than he wants. the Derby run, however, was better than it looks on paper, and given the nice draw, does he even need better than \'0\'?
looking for a rail trip to the far turn, a run in the \'0\' range, and a top two finish at decent odds.
Hard Spun makes sense, as he should also favor the cut back, but faces the risk of a three wide run around the rirst turn, which makes this a risky proposition at 3-1 or lower.
Calvin and Street Sense are going to have to wait until JR makes his move before they get run, and there is no guarantee he takes his negative \'2\' outside of Ky. most likely winner, but also lacking value at even money or lower.
Curlin? don\'t know. would use with a top three jock up, but ....
KotR? i don\'t like him at the distance, but has the fast fig and the HUGE timing advantage. could get brave if it comes up wet fast.
after the first look, it\'s CQ.
If only he ran 3rd in the derby..............I think you\'re right about CQ. How fast did JV jump to him!
How does this horse get involved early enough to be in position to win the race?
Although performance ratings can answer many questions, this is one question they cannot. CIRCULAR QUAY will not be circling a bunch of March 3yos at 1 1/16th at Fair Grounds on Saturday.
Good Luck,
Joe B.
Agreed on the circling part and with everyone screaming about SS getting the rail and the perfect trip. This may not be the place to go so there will more of an inside-out move turning for home for CQ and SS.
Regarding CQ he is not a bad idea if you think the others are worse for the wear and tear of the Derby and you do not want to take 5-2 or less to find out the hard way.
The race to review for CQ is the one he almost fell. Yeah the one he finished fifth. Look at the nice sustained move he made down the backstretch to be right with the pack turning for home.
He ran into trouble there and if people are not smart they will run into trouble in the same place again on Saturday. Some riders may have to wait a little for room and hope their horse has the burst home speed and class to get there. We know SS does.
At about 7-1 CQ may be worth wagering on trying to find out......
