Title: RACE OF THE CENTURY?
Post by: high roller on May 07, 2007, 07:05:10 PM
IF STREET SENSE WINS THE PREAKNESS:

Pletcher\'s plans for the Belmont Stakes are in flux, but both he and Michael Tabor, the co-owner of Rags to Riches, intimated after the Oaks that the Belmont was possible for her. Rags to Riches is by A.P. Indy, the 1992 Belmont winner, and is a half-sister to last year\'s Belmont winner, Jazil.

Belmont will have 125,000 people and the tv will break records.......

That race took alot out of the fillie imo , I can see why not running her in the Derby was a wise decision . Rags To Riches was spirited and animated for about 10 minutes during the award presentations and  i\'m not an expert or vet , but she looked to me in bad shape , very tight , dehydrated , maybe in mild or lite shock when walking back from the Oaks winners circle shortly afterward  and they didn\'t have blanket on her made me think she was very overheated and i guess she deserves to be after that Oaks effort  ...

HOW ADSURD, FIRST RACE IN 8 WEEKS AND SHE WAS A JOG BURGER, PLUS THE WEATHER WAS COOL, SHE WOULD HAVE 5 WEEKS INTO THE BELMONT.

If no triple crown is on the line, there will be 64,000 people there.

i\'m holding my position - the tv camera stayed with the horse for a good long  while after leaving the winners circle . you might want to consider what you missed if you didn\'t see that  . and again i\'m not a vet - but with the level of humidity in the air on friday close to % 100 , the actual air tempreture at that time is not as relevent a factor in terms of exhaustion , cardiovascular duress or over-exertion as you may apparently belive .

As you can tell by my moronic posts, I wasn\'t the biggest fan of Street Sense and I always like to see fillies run against colts, far more prevalent in other countries than here, but you really think Rags would give SS a run for his money? On the sheets they are not even close, right? I thought Hard Spun was the one who ran a tremendous race in the Derby, and he and Street Sense\'s battle will be one I hope I get to see in the Preakness and Belmont. He ran the best race in my view -- to go that fast and just keep going. He\'ll be darn tough in the Preakness, I can tell you that. They also get really tired at Belmont the farther they go -- I\'ll be looking for a Hard Spun comeback -- he made a fan out of me.

Here\'s some advice I picked up while I was hot walking for Richard Dutrow senior (I really ought to charge money for this):

The only time you bet a filly to beat colts is when she is IN HEAT and the LONE SPEED of the race.

The colts are so freaking horney that they will never pass her - they just want to get close enough to, you know............

So if you think Rags to Riches is the lone speed in the Belmont AND she\'s in heat (try figuring that one out, mr. average racing fan) then you should bet with both hands.

Good luck with that.

if R2R goes in the Bel , imo - it\'s not at all impossible for her to win , and her chances are better than most who show up for the race . she might have been in the tri had she run in the derby . fair to say ,  HS has proved he\'s a great horse - now he\'s just got to win another one  ...

That\'s really funny b/c I always look for fillies who\'ll be on the lead vs. colts. I didn\'t think about the \"in-heat\" part, but I figured the colts would be content chasing in any event! Usually works that way with humans, too!

Interesting theory. When it comes to American racing, I've always given the best chance of beating the boys to fillies/mares on the lead – Winning Colors, Serena's Song, etc. – thinking that American females aren't used to racing amongst the boys, and they might be intimidated if they're surrounded by a bunch of them. Best to just jet to the front and avoid the intimidation issue.

Euro fillies, on the other hand, routinely run with the boys, which – so my theory goes – lessens the intimidation factor. As such, racing in and among males isn't such a big deal. Think Miesque, Six Perfections, Pebbles, etc.

might be worth your while then to see why winning colors won the derby.

Dana, Woody Stephens did not believe in running fillies against colts. I don\'t either. Really thought Winning Colors stole that Derby. Patient Pat you know. What are you gonna do?

Jazil did not impress me last year and I dont think theres any reason to get gaga over a half sis. Jazil hasn\'t won this year as far as I know. Pletcher wants a Triple Crown race sure, but theres top filly races he can win. I hope he does mismanage her because I want that faker out of the game. Did you see Peb\'s Derby Cover? \"The Grand Chessmaster\"...lol  For the Derby Peb  needs to feature Pletcher as \"Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.\" with Rags to Riches as the potion guinea pig. That one would be even funnier than incredulity of the Derby art.

Barry when you want a great trainer I\'ll refer you to one.
