Title: derby longshot special
Post by: RICH on April 25, 2007, 06:54:38 PM
Hey, a few stand out on number pattern/power. However, let me throw one out there for the tri, one with a big shot. ZANJERO, has a nice pattern, with a top just a few off the major contenders. His last was a close up, on the lead effort, on a bad rail. Watch his prior races, and the big moves. I see a move foward on Derby Day that may put him right there at 50-1

I didn\'t see a dead rail mark on his Sheet, the horse is two for eight lifetime and 0-fer this year. He is Assmussens third stringer that is why they can\'t find a rider.

The explosion lines are Nobiz, Dominican and Chelokee.

The horse with the best looking line is Hard Spun.

The horse with a good chance and no pre-race hype is Crap Daddy.

Which Derby contender received this workout comment from Steve Haskin?

Made his intial appearance with a glowing dappled coat then proceeded to move effortlessly over the Churchill surface with long gliding strides. Finished his final quarter in less than 24 seconds flat while galloping out a mile in 1:40, jogged out a mile and a quarter in 2:07 and was eventually pulled up without even blowing but not before he reached his stabling stall.

Answer, every runner who has set foot on the Track.

Rich, I could not agree with you more.  He was my choice in the BG, and while I\'m not all that sold on the dead rail theorists, it was clear that when he kicked it in he started to swim.  Will Asmussen run 1-2 over TAP?

Silver - the Haskin comment is a real classic.

Watch the head on replay of the Bluegrass from April 14th.He wasn\'t near the rail.He was the only one of the top five finishers that avoided any kind of trouble in the stretch.

If the inside was so dead why was the winner of the 10th race that day able to stay right on it in the stretch and win?

Weak excuse in my view from his camp.It looked like a perfect trip. You get all this from the head on-not the regular replay.

I left out one part,

\"When asked about the work Trainer XYZ said, \'It was exactly what we wanted, all we need now is some racing luck\'

Silver,

Given your comments, I thought you might enjoy the Derby Workout Mad-Lib I posted on the Left At The Gate blog yesterday.

Silver please explain how you read these 3 as having explosion lines:

In Chelokee is see it taking 3 starts at 3 to get back to the 2yo top. I read that as a negative. And the top is slow compared to many others.

NoBiz is the same horse as he was when he first ran in Sept. With no development at all.  What do you see that points to improvement all of a sudden in 2 weeks?

Dominican also has shown no development from the 2 yo top in 2 attempts this year.  What do you see that indicates improvement should be expected?

Please explain why you believe Hard Spun has the best looking line:

Granted the horse has never gone backward, nevertheless you can also say Hard Spun has not gone forward either having only paired the 2yo top in 3 attempts this year.  You have to ask why no development from 2 to 3 in 3 attempts no?

all I am saying here is that this horse has made some big moves from way out there. That BG race, he ran totallay against his nature and was right there, at 50-1 he is a use in tri for me. Look at the numbers, his 2 is what, a 1/2 off HS, a 1 1/4 off AGS, and SD. This guy is pretty close on number power for a tri, and I\'m looking for the big one.
